Lamole between vineyards and history
Accommodation in Lamole
Lamole is a small village nestled among vineyards, known for its striking views of the Chianti area. Chestnut and oak woods surround the village; beyond the vineyards in the valley, the view opens westward onto rolling hills. The landscape is therefore not just a backdrop for wine, but an integral part of the destination. When looking for a hotel for a stay in Lamole, you can choose your destination based on whether wine experiences, scenery or historic sites are most important to you.
Wine Country and Walking Routes
The landscape around Lamole is recognized as a historic rural cultural landscape of international importance; it is shaped by Alberello vines and dry-stone walls. Lamole’s square also lies at the center of the medieval settlement, which is characterized by Alberello vines and traditional dry-stone walls. This is where the Anello di Lamole circular route begins. If you are interested in the route, bear in mind that trail conditions can change; check the latest information before setting out. The road leading up to the village is also considered an attraction in its own right: it runs from the turnoff on the road between Greve and Panzano to Lamole.
Churches and History
San Donato is a small Romanesque church dating from the 13th century and was rebuilt in the 19th century. The two dates mark different stages: its Romanesque origins and its later reconstruction. Near Lamole, the Church of San Michele is located in Parco San Michele, close to the summit of the mountain of the same name, at an elevation of about 900 meters. The fresco on the altar wall depicts the Madonna and Child and several saints; the work is attributed to Paolo Schiavo. In the 12th century, the former monastery complex of San Michele became affiliated with the Camaldolese Congregation. Together, the artwork and the monastery’s history reveal different aspects of the sacred culture in the surrounding area.
On September 30, 2025, the reopening of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo was announced following architectural and artistic restoration. If you are planning a visit, check current access information in advance.
Wine Tastings and Experiences
The wines of Fattoria di Lamole reflect the family’s winemaking tradition, passed down through generations. Lamole di Lamole offers tours of its vineyards and cellars, followed by a wine tasting. The “Wines & Flavours” experience combines a cellar visit and wine tasting with local food specialties. Another experience includes a private visit to the village and church, a walk through the vineyards, a cellar tour, a welcome drink and a wine tasting. Dates and availability for these visits may change; check the latest information before planning your visit around them.
For planning purposes, the difference lies in the focus: the walking route starts in the settlement’s square, while the wine experiences combine tours with tastings. “I profumi di Lamole” is also part of the area’s wine history: the 22nd edition took place from May 31 to June 2, 2025, in Greve in Chianti; the program at the time included wine tastings and meetings with producers.
