Scaglieri lies on the Gulf of Biodola on the northern side of Elba Island. Spiaggia di Scaglieri is a small sandy beach adjoining Biodola. The sea is usually calm here because the beach is sheltered within the gulf; however, weather and wind can change conditions. This coastal setting shapes the area, although sea conditions do not always remain the same. The village and trails along the north coast and in the wider surrounding area also contribute to the local character. The beach, buildings and routes offer different perspectives when considering Scaglieri as a destination for your stay.

Beach and village

The pastel-colored houses stand on the rocks beside the beach. The old, distinctive village consists of two rows of adjoining houses, 50 meters from the sea. The rows and their distance from the sea give the small village a specific architectural scale; beside the sandy beach, the settlement emerges as a distinct part of the coastline. If you are considering Scaglieri as a place to stay, you can take into account not only the shape of the beach but also the character of the village when choosing where to stay.

At sunset, Spiaggia di Scaglieri offers a view of the island of Capraia. Visibility and the view vary with conditions. If you plan to visit this stretch of coast for this particular view, use sunset as a reference time and factor in changing visibility. This makes the view a possible addition to your stay, not a guarantee of an unchanging panorama.

Coastal trails and route features

Sentiero 249 is classified as T (turistico). A coastal itinerary along the north coast connects the beaches of Forno, Scaglieri, Biodola, Lamaia and Porticciolo, and continues to Guardiola, a former military position overlooking the Gulf of Procchio. The routes have different features: Sentiero 249 is identified by its classification, while the coastal itinerary is defined by its sequence of beach names and its endpoint, Guardiola. This allows you to distinguish a classification from a route with specifically named places. Trail conditions can change. Check conditions before setting out, especially if your plans depend on a particular section.

In the wider area around Scaglieri, Sentiero della Salute combines a coastal walk with access to the small beaches of Lamaia and Porticciolo. The trail runs from Biodola to Procchio via Route No. 245. The endpoints and route number provide a different way of orienting yourself than the sequence of beaches on the north-coast itinerary; the small beaches add a specific coastal destination to the trail. Trail conditions and waymarking can change; access to the small beaches also depends on trail conditions. Check these before your walk, especially if Lamaia or Porticciolo is your destination.
