When choosing a stay in Vezzano, trails, geology and local history offer concrete points of reference. The themes range from circular walks with named starting points to glacial potholes, a long mountain bike tour, and historic and contemporary cultural sites. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider which of these interests will shape your trip; the routes described vary in both length and activity.

Trails and geology

The Anello sulle tracce dei vecchi mulini circular route starts in Vezzano, goes to Fraveggio and Ciago, and returns from there. It is about 7 km long and runs mostly along paths. This gives you both an approximate route length and an indication of the terrain; nevertheless, check trail conditions before setting out.

Three other circular routes can be distinguished by their starting points. The Anello Vezzano - Terlago starts at the northern roundabout in Vezzano; parking is available at the cemetery. The Anello Vezzano - Fraveggio - Padergnone starts at the parish church of Saints Vigilius and Valentin. The Anello Vezzano - S. Martino - Padergnone starts at the Aiuola della pace near the Teatro Valle in Vezzano. Access details for these circular routes may change; check them before setting out.

The Antonio Stoppani geological trail is well signposted, maintained by the municipality of Vallelaghi, and leads to the first eight glacial potholes. The Vallelaghi Geological Trail starts in the village of Vezzano on the northwestern slopes of Monte Bondone and links numerous glacial potholes known as “marmitte dei giganti.” These geological trails focus on specific destinations and different descriptions of the glacial potholes.

For cycling, the Valle dei Laghi Trail Tour is a separate option: it is rated difficult, covers 43.8 km and has a stated duration of six hours. Both the start and finish are in Vezzano. By comparison, the Anello sulle tracce dei vecchi mulini is much shorter at about 7 km and is described as a circular route that runs mostly along paths. Route length, activity and stated difficulty offer different points of reference for planning your tour.

Local history and art

The Imperial Regio Casino di Bersaglio shooting range in Vezzano has been documented since 1708. After nearly a century of neglect, the Imperial Regio Casino di Bersaglio was reconstructed using drawings discovered in 1901 in the Provincial Archives in Innsbruck. The Compagnia Schützen “Major Enrico Tonelli” carried out the reconstruction; the facility was inaugurated on August 26, 2012. This allows the facility’s early history and its later reconstruction to be distinguished chronologically.

Another historical reference point is the year 1527: Prince-Bishop Cardinal Bernardo Clesio elevated Vezzano to the status of a Borgo. The elevation was in recognition of the obedience shown by the residents during the Peasants’ War. This historical context adds a local-history theme to your trail planning.

Opened in 2020, Parco d’Arte Lusan is a center for contemporary art in nature in Valle dei Laghi, within the municipality of Vallelaghi. Its installations, made from various materials, are accompanied by explanatory panels. The park thus combines contemporary art with a natural setting; the panels are part of the description of the installations.

The Giro delle 4 frazioni circular route also highlights a cultural stop: it recommends visiting the church in Vezzano dedicated to Saints Vigilius and Valentin. Check the church’s accessibility before visiting.
