Baselga di Piné: Lakes, Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Baselga di Piné
Lakes, trails and cultural heritage offer different starting points for planning a stay. You can focus on spending time by the water, a route of a particular length, or architecture and religious tradition. When choosing a trail, its route, length and described features are especially helpful.
Lakes and lakeside paths
Lago della Serraia is just a few steps from the centre of Baselga di Piné. A convenient walking path follows much of its shore. Lago di Serraia is the municipality’s main lake and is suitable for swimming. This brings together a lakeside path and the opportunity to swim as two distinct aspects of the lake.
Another beach is Spiaggia ai due Laghi: it is a freely accessible beach in Località Campolongo, on the left bank of Lago delle Piazze. If facilities are important for your visit, check them beforehand; they may change.
Routes by length and course
The Giro dei laghi dell’Altopiano offers two approximate distances: about 4 km if you circle only Lago di Serraia, and around 12 km for a loop around both lakes. The shorter option therefore stays within one lake, while the longer one includes both lakes. The Bedolpian walk differs in its layout and surface: it is a loop that starts and ends in Baselga di Piné and runs entirely on gravel paths. It is suitable for families and dogs.
Tour 856 – Paesi di Baselga di Piné can be ridden in either direction without difficulty. You can shorten the tour to a northeastern section via Lago della Serraia, Sternigo, Ricaldo and Baselga, ending at the Stadio del Ghiaccio. Alternatively, there is a southwestern section from Baselga towards Tressilla, San Mauro and Montagnaga. This gives you a choice between the two route options described. Trail conditions and signposting on this tour may change; check both before setting out.
Nature trail at Laghestel
Laghestel is a provincial nature reserve and a Special Area of Conservation in Baselga di Piné. The visitor trail at Laghestel starts in Località Ferrari and has no technical difficulties.
Architecture and religious tradition
The Santuario della Madonna di Piné is located in Montagnaga, a hamlet of Baselga di Piné. It is associated with five reported Marian apparitions between 1729 and 1730. The late Baroque building contains works by Francesco Unterpergher and Elena Zambaiti, as well as numerous painted votive offerings. Alongside the religious tradition, this brings the artistic decoration and architectural form into focus.
The Antica Pieve di S. Maria Assunta combines Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements. The Baroque influence is particularly evident in the high altar, which is carved and gilded. The different styles and the altar offer distinct architectural details to look out for.
The history of hotel construction is also part of the area’s heritage: Albergo Museo alla Corona was founded in 1883 and is among the early buildings in Trentino constructed exclusively for hotel use. The restored medieval Mulino Moser di Prada is also now a museum. Both examples offer their own cultural and historical points of reference, distinct from the trails and lakes.
