Andalo at the Foot of the Brenta Dolomites
Accommodation in Andalo
Andalo lies on a high plateau at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites. Part of the municipality lies within Adamello Brenta Nature Park. The destinations differ not only by theme, but also according to whether the focus is a circular trail, a historical landmark, or a combination of mountain lifts and a footpath.
The lake and seasonal changes
Lago di Andalo is a shallow karst lake whose surface changes depending on the season and amount of precipitation. In spring, the lake reaches its highest water level as the snow melts; some of the water flows through the Rio Lambin toward Lago di Molveno. The seasonal changes in water level are a topic in their own right, in addition to the route around the lake: the circular trail is about 2.6 kilometres long, flat, mostly paved and suitable for strollers. When planning, you can therefore distinguish between the natural feature of the changing lake and a specific walking route.
Local history and buildings
At Doss, archaeologists uncovered the remains of an ancient church dating from the 15th to 16th century. Several burials were found nearby, regarded as evidence of what was probably Andalo’s first cemetery. Doss is therefore a landmark in local history both for its place of worship and for the interpretation of the burials. The Church of Saints Vitus, Modestus and Crescentia Martyrs stands in the centre of Andalo. Construction began in 1782; it was completed and blessed in 1783. The historical details can thus be distinguished by location and type: at Doss, they are uncovered remains and burials; in the centre, a named church building with specific construction and blessing dates. Maso Pegorar remains visibly set apart from the rest of Andalo in a panoramic location. A centrally located church and a detached maso thus represent different spatial landmarks.
Mountain destinations and access
From Andalo, you can reach Cima Paganella via the Andalo–Doss Pelà gondola, a 500-metre footpath, and then the Albi de Mez–Cima Paganella chairlift. The route therefore consists of two mountain lifts and a footpath. If you are planning this route, check the lifts’ current operating times. The approach to the start of the Ferrata delle Aquile is separate: from the summit of Paganella, you can reach the start in about 45 minutes via the first section of the Sentiero delle Aquile, also known as trail F10 ex 602. The two figures answer different planning questions: 500 metres refers to the footpath on the route from Andalo to Cima Paganella; about 45 minutes is the time needed to walk from the summit to the start.
More experiences
Andalo Life Park offers indoor and outdoor experiences. Andalo Vacanze’s train rides to discover the Paganella Plateau depart from Piazza Dolomiti in Andalo. Along with the lake, local history and mountain access routes, you can also include these two activities among your interests for your stay.
