Hiking or cross-country skiing in Slingia

Two distinct activity options can be clearly identified in Slingia: the hike to the Uinaschlucht gorge and the Nordic-Schlinig Centre with its cross-country ski trails. If you are looking for a hotel in Slingia, this distinction can help you organise your plans for your stay. The hike focuses on Trail No. 1 and several named destinations; for cross-country skiing, two styles and the route from the village to the Schliniger Alm are relevant. This means you can start planning your trip with the activities you actually have in mind.

Hike to the Uinaschlucht gorge

The hike to the Uinaschlucht gorge leads from Slingia along Trail No. 1 to the Sesvenna Refuge, then on towards the Schlinig Pass and the Swiss border. The sequence of destinations gives the hike a clear direction: from the village, past the refuge, and onwards towards the pass and border. By comparison, the cross-country ski trail at the Nordic-Schlinig Centre runs from the village to the Schliniger Alm. If you are planning the hike, check the seasonal conditions before your trip.

Cross-country skiing and visitor services

The Nordic-Schlinig Centre has 22 kilometres of trails for classic cross-country skiing and skating. The trails run from the village of Slingia to the Schliniger Alm. Trail lengths and routes may change seasonally, so check the current conditions before your visit. This gives you different points of reference for making your decision: for the hike, waypoints are listed, while for cross-country skiing, the trail length and two styles are also provided. This lets you plan around whichever activity interests you.

The centre has changing rooms and toilets, as well as a waxing service and rental of the necessary equipment. These practical facilities add to the information about the trails with other aspects that may be relevant before a day of cross-country skiing. Visitor services may vary by season, so check in advance which services will be available for your visit.

Schliniger Alm: access, views and alpine cheese

The Schliniger Alm can be reached from Slingia on foot or by bicycle and is also the destination of the Nordic-Schlinig Centre’s trails. It is therefore a shared point of reference for different activities. From the Alm, you can enjoy panoramic views across the valley to the east and of the Schwarze Wand, with its waterfall, to the west. The Schliniger Alm’s alpine dairy offers one of the best alpine cheeses in the Upper Vinschgau. So, in addition to the routes and views, a specific regional cheese is also part of the picture.

Church and getting there

The Church of St Anthony is another specific local landmark: it dates back to the 15th century. This historical aspect complements the outdoor activities with a glimpse into Slingia’s history. If you would like to include a cultural element in your travel plans alongside hiking or cross-country skiing, the church is another named point of interest.

The village of Slingia, your starting point, can be reached by bus route 277. Before travelling, check the current route number and timetable to make sure your journey fits your planned activities.
