At Lake Carezza, you can choose from a variety of reasons to visit: Lago di Carezza as a protected natural monument, various trails and the winter Passeggiata Elisabetta. The Latemarium also offers routes for fitness enthusiasts. To plan your trip, you might first consider whether your main aim is to visit the lake, choose a particular route or plan a seasonal activity. The options differ in their starting points, destinations and time of year.

Lago di Carezza

Lago di Carezza is a protected natural monument, fed by underground springs from the Latemar. As of 29 August 2026. The panoramic viewing platform and the lakeside trail are accessible to people with reduced mobility; there are two bistros in the visitor centre. If accessible access or a visit to the centre is important to your plans, check the latest visitor information before your visit.

Hiking trails with different destinations

The circular route from Nova Levante to Lago di Carezza follows a shady forest trail along the Rio di Nova Levante. The return route follows the historic Herrensteig. This means the tour includes both the section by the stream and the return along a historic trail. Trail conditions and signage may change; check them in advance if you are planning the circular route.

Another option is the route from Carezza to the Monumento di Elisabetta, described as a family hike. It starts at the car park by the valley station of the Paolina chairlift. Compared with the circular route from Nova Levante, it leads to a different destination and has a different starting point. When planning this hike, take parking and trail conditions into account, as they may change.

Latemarium and Mountain Cinema

At the Latemarium, fitness enthusiasts can enjoy the latemar.bike and latemar.run routes and take a short break at Lago di Carezza. The named routes and a stop at the lake can therefore be considered part of a day of activities. Mountain Cinema, by contrast, refers to six viewpoints between Nova Ponente, Obereggen, Collepietra and Nova Levante-Carezza. It is not a single viewpoint, but comprises several locations. If you are choosing between the options, the Latemarium focuses on the routes and a break by the lake, while Mountain Cinema features six viewpoints in different places.

Winter route and getting oriented

The winter Passeggiata Elisabetta in Carezza passes the historic Grand Hotel and ends at the Monumento di Elisabetta. The family hike from the car park at the Paolina valley station also leads to this monument, but the two routes differ in their starting points and seasonal classification. Access to the winter route depends on conditions, so check them before setting out.

There is a bus stop at Lago di Carezza called “Nova Levante, Lago di Carezza”. As timetables may change, check the current timetable if you plan to use this stop. When looking for hotels in Lake Carezza, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on during your trip: a visit to the lake, a hike with a particular starting point or a winter route. This lets you plan your trip around the activities that matter for your stay.
