Riscone at Plan de Corones
Accommodation in Riscone
Riscone lies south of Brunico on a high plateau at the foot of Plan de Corones. The village connects its town center with trails through the cultural landscape and destinations on the mountain. When planning your stay, it is worth considering the different elevations and types of routes: from the indoor swimming pool in the center to circular trails and attractions at the summit. The lifts in Riscone are considered one of the most important access points to Plan de Corones.
Town Center and Mountain Destinations
The CRON4 indoor swimming pool is located in the center of Riscone. Further destinations on the mountain have a very different character: the LUMEN Museum is located at the summit of Plan de Corones. This lets you choose between a visit to the village and an excursion to higher elevations when planning your day.
Via Artis also offers a cultural focus on the mountain. It is an open-air art gallery at an elevation of 2,275 meters and follows a 7.2-kilometer circular route. With LUMEN as a museum at the summit and Via Artis as an open-air art trail, there are different formats to choose from. The elevation and length of the Via Artis route also provide concrete reference points for planning your visit.
Hiking Trails with Different Route Types
The AVS trail starts at the cable car valley station in Riscone-Reischach and follows trail no. 6 through the forest to Kronplatz. The Concordia 360° trail has a different layout: this easy circular trail loops around the 2,275-meter-high Kronplatz plateau and can be reached from Riscone-Reischach by cable car. The main difference between the routes is their course—a forest trail climbing to the summit or a circular route across the high plateau.
To reach the Herrnsteig Trail, take the gondola from Riscone to the summit of Plan de Corones; the ride takes about 20 minutes. The descent runs along the mountain’s northern slope, is eight kilometers long and has an elevation drop of 1,300 meters. These details give you a clear idea of the route without confusing it with the easy circular trail across the high plateau.
There are also different routes in the village area. The Riscone circular trail starts and ends at the church in the town center, passes through Reischach and the surrounding cultural landscape, and includes the “Kappler Stöckl” chapel as a rest stop. The panoramic trail starts near the Kneipp facility and leads to “Maria unterm Stoan” or the barbecue area. Art installations are also integrated into the hiking trails of Reischach. When choosing a route, you can therefore consider whether you prefer a loop, particular starting and finishing points, or cultural stops along the way.
City bus 420.1 runs between Brunico and Riscone and stops at Chiesa in Riscone. If you plan to use this connection, check the timetable before setting off.
Cross-country Skiing and Sledding in Winter
The Riscone cross-country skiing area offers the Reiperting, Riscone and S. Stefano routes. The Reischach/Riscone cross-country ski trail also runs near the Riscone sports area as a loop through snow-covered fields and meadows. Winter conditions and seasonal access are also part of planning these activities.
Another winter option is the Korer toboggan run: it descends for one kilometer from the mountain station of the Korer gondola to the valley station, with an elevation drop of 150 meters. The run is considered particularly suitable for families with children. Compared with the cross-country skiing options, this toboggan run offers a clearly defined descent. Which activity is right for your stay depends on whether you would rather take a lap through the winter landscape or go sledding downhill.
