Pfelders: Hiking, Nature and Winter Sports
Accommodation in Pfelders
Anyone looking for a hotel in Pfelders is also choosing a base where hiking, high-alpine destinations and winter activities play a role. Options range from trails to Schneidalm to the high-alpine variant of the Meraner Höhenweg. In winter, local activities include skiing, tobogganing and natural ice skating. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing between specific destinations and seasonal conditions.
Hikes from Pfelders
The high-alpine variant of the Meraner Höhenweg begins in the car-free mountain village of Pfelders. It leads through the Faltschnaltal valley to the Spronser Joch, the plateau of the Spronser Seen lakes and the Oberkaser Alm. The ten Spronser Seen lakes form South Tyrol’s highest lake plateau and were created by the movement of a glacier. The route thus connects named stages with a striking glacial landscape. As alpine conditions vary with the seasons, you should take them into account when planning your hike.
Another specific hiking destination is Schneidalm. The trail leads from Pfelders via route 6A; for the return, you can take the same trail or routes 44B and 8. This gives you two described options for the return route. Route 6A also leads from Pfelders via the ZwickauerhĂĽtte to Seelenkogel, at an altitude of 3,489 metres. Suitable conditions and experience are required for this high-alpine route.
A forest road leads from Pfelders via the Meraner Höhenweg to Lazins Alm, at the foot of Hohe Wilde. Pfelders is also a starting point for hikes throughout Texelgruppe Nature Park. These destinations differ in their routes and locations; seasonal conditions may affect trail access.
Stone Labyrinth and other activities
The Stone Labyrinth at the Grünboden mountain station is laid out as a short circular trail and consists entirely of natural materials. Its features include a pond, a fountain with spring water and several viewpoints. Information boards document avalanches from the 19th and 20th centuries. The circular trail thus combines landscape views with insights into the region’s avalanche events.
Spider Park has four courses and four zip lines. They reach heights of up to 40 metres above the Pfelderer Bach stream. The route itself offers a specific reference point for another activity: the mountain-cart descent from the mountain station to the valley station is 3.5 kilometres long. It is seasonal, so it is advisable to check availability before your trip.
Winter in Pfelders
Pfelders ski area has 18 kilometres of pistes: five kilometres of easy runs, twelve kilometres of intermediate runs and one kilometre of difficult runs. Check the seasonal configuration before your winter visit. The Pfelders family toboggan run is 450 metres long; it is also worth checking whether it is operating before you travel. There is also a natural ice-skating rink right by the ski lift, whose opening depends on winter conditions.
A natural toboggan run leads from GrĂĽnbodenhĂĽtte down to the village of Pfelders. Its use depends on snow conditions. The different winter activities therefore vary not only in type, but also in their respective seasonal requirements. When choosing your travel dates, these conditions can be a useful point of reference alongside the number of piste kilometres.
Getting there and history
Pfelders is considered a car-free mountain village. During their stay, guests are expected to leave their cars at their accommodation; driving as far as the accommodation is permitted. There is a large car park before the entrance to the village. Check the local regulations in force before travelling.
The area’s history also helps provide a sense of place: the old Totenweg trail from Pfelders to Dorf Tirol is considered evidence of early human presence in Texelgruppe. This historical connection complements the hiking and landscape themes that may be relevant when choosing a stay in Pfelders.
