Longi’s attractions include the Chiesa di Maria Santissima Annunziata and the medieval Castello di Longi, as well as Bosco di Mangalaviti, a natural area within the municipality and part of Parco dei Nebrodi. Other highlights include the landscape of the so-called Stretta di Longi, an environmental education trail and opportunities for active recreation. You can plan your stay around specific natural and cultural interests.

Forest, altitude and landscape

Bosco di Mangalaviti lies at an altitude of 1,200 to 1,500 metres above sea level. From Longi, the natural area can be reached by taking the road towards Portella Gazzana. For planning purposes, both the forest’s altitude and the indicated road direction are useful landmarks.

At the entrance to Bosco di Mangalaviti is Case Mangalaviti, an ancient estate and rural centre. The Sentiero Didattico, an environmental education trail, is also located at Case. The two destinations offer different experiences: Case Mangalaviti represents the area’s rural history, while the trail provides an opportunity to learn about the environment.

Another distinctive landscape can be found at the so-called “Stretta” di Longi. It is a valley with rapids and waterfalls, where the two mountains seem almost to meet. This valley scenery contrasts with the forests and high-altitude landscapes of Bosco di Mangalaviti.

Churches and history in Longi

The Chiesa di Maria Santissima Annunziata was built in 1857 in Piazza Generale Moriondo. Its predecessor collapsed in the 1851 landslide. Two events mark the church’s history: first, the collapse of the former church, followed by the construction of the church that now defines the square.

The Chiesa di Maria Santissima Annunziata houses a marble statue of the Madonna Annunziata with gold-coloured decoration. The work is attributed to the brothers Antonino and Giacomo Gagini. For a visit focused on cultural history, the statue’s artistic features offer a point of interest alongside the church’s history. Longi’s Chiesa Madre adds to this picture with a 15th-century bell tower and a 17th-century organ.

Castello di Longi dates back to the Middle Ages. A municipal notice updated on 17 September 2024 states that the building cannot currently be entered. As access status can change, check before visiting. This lets you distinguish the castle’s medieval history from the question of whether entry is possible.

Activities and travel planning

Nebrodi Adventure Park is located in Bosco Soprano in Contrada Pado, about four kilometres from the centre of Longi. Its facilities include suspended platforms, bridges and treetop courses with varying difficulty levels. The park caters to children, teenagers and adults. The range of difficulty levels and age groups can help you choose a course.

The Sagra del Suino Nero dei Nebrodi offers a specific date to plan around: it is held in Longi every January. Check the exact dates before travelling. This lets you schedule a possible festival visit, while forests, churches and historic buildings offer other themes to include in your plans.
