If you are looking for a hotel in Fobello, nature, traditional costume culture and local traditions can each offer a different focus for your stay. The municipality combines an area within Alta Valsesia Nature Park with museums, a historic church building and customs closely connected with the village.

Nature Park and Trails Around Fobello

About 700 hectares of Fobello’s municipal territory lie within Alta Valsesia Nature Park. In the section of the park within the municipality, beech trees, silver firs and spruces grow; at higher elevations, there are dense stands of rhododendrons. The plant life thus changes with altitude, giving the landscape a distinct natural character.

The trails described here also offer different experiences. A trail equipped for people with disabilities leads from the hamlet of Roj to the hamlet of Torno and then continues towards Cervatto. A well-preserved mule track leads from the hamlet of the same name to Alpe Cardone at an altitude of 1,907 metres; the walk takes about two and a half hours. While one route connects hamlets and continues towards Cervatto, the other is described in terms of its walking time and high-altitude destination.

Traditional Costume and Museums

Fobello’s traditional costume is worn at religious festivals and folkloric events. A special baptismal tradition links the costume to a specific place: a decorated wooden cradle is carried on the head of a girl in traditional costume to the area beneath the parish church’s portico.

The Museo Tirozzo Carestia is housed in a remarkable 16th-century building in the hamlet of Campelli. A room on the first floor displays three complete Fobello costumes, along with selected garments and accessories. The collection also includes around 1,000 sheets dating from 1854 to the early years of the 20th century. The combination of complete costumes, individual garments and a collection spanning a specific period gives this museum a varied profile.

The Museo del Puncetto is housed in a historic building in the centre of Fobello. It displays lace, clothing and objects relating to the history of the village’s traditional costume. The museums have different focuses: the Museo Tirozzo Carestia features complete costumes and historical sheets, among other things, while the Museo del Puncetto displays lace and other objects related to the history of traditional costume.

Church and Local Traditions

The parish church of San Giacomo Maggiore adds a distinct historical layer to the village’s character. It was originally built around 1545 and, after repeated flood damage, was rebuilt in its present form in 1931. Its current appearance thus sits alongside a history shaped by several rebuilds.

Paniccia is also an established part of local traditions: on the last Sunday of Carnival, it is prepared in Fobello’s village square as a vegetable soup with tripe and salami. The timing and specific ingredients give this custom a distinctive character. Another culinary aspect of the area is the La Giuncà dairy, which makes cheese within Alta Valsesia Nature Park at an altitude of 1,100 metres.

When planning your stay, you can choose between different interests: the trails and vegetation represent the nature park, while the museums, traditional costume and baptismal tradition offer insights into Fobello’s cultural life. The church, Paniccia and cheese-making add local history and food culture to these themes.
