Discover Vignone
Accommodation in Vignone
Vignone lies on the slopes of Monte Cimolo. Extensive woodlands stretch across the left slope of the Valle Intrasca, and from Vignone you can enjoy views across Lake Maggiore. When looking for a hotel in Vignone, you might first consider whether you would like to focus your stay on nature trails, cycling tours or historical heritage. From Verbania Intra, you can reach Vignone via the Intra-Premeno provincial road.
Scenery, trails and cycling tours
Numerous trails and mule tracks are suitable for walks and hikes; many of them are also suitable for mountain biking. This applies to a large number of the trails, not necessarily to every individual path. The ÆQUILIBRIUM cycling and hiking loop offers a specific option: it is 15.5 kilometres long and starts in Cambiasca. One variant leads in Vignone to the hamlet of Bureglio and the rock engravings at Belvedere. Route details may change; check the route before setting out.
A historic route through Vignone was part of a trail that led from the lake and Intra to San Martino, passed through Bureglio into the Valle Intrasca, crossed the Zeda and reached Switzerland. This former route connects the village to a history that extends beyond the local trails.
San Martino and historic buildings
The monumental San Martino complex lies outside the village on the summit of a plateau, offering views across the Verbania plain. It was built between the 16th and 18th centuries on the site of an existing small Romanesque chapel. The parish church of San Martino was completed in 1615. The complex includes the parish church, the frescoed ossuary, the rectory and the cemetery surrounding the circular church of La Rotonda.
La Rotonda is a circular oratory at the centre of the cemetery and is considered unique of its kind in Europe. Beneath its portico is a Stations of the Cross frescoed by Lorenzo Peretti. The San Martino complex thus brings together several aspects: its long history of construction, different religious buildings and fresco art.
Bureglio also offers historic and cultural points of interest. The Oratorio di San Michele was completed in 1799. Casa degli Archi is a typical house built in an organic architectural style and is used for exhibitions and events. In Bureglio, an oratory and a house used for cultural events therefore represent different architectural and cultural aspects.
In the village of Vignone, a Serizzo lintel engraved with three anthropomorphic figures is set into the outer wall of a private house. The private residence and its outer wall are the setting for this feature; the engraving itself depicts the figures in stone.
