Roure is one of the municipalities in Orsiera Rocciavrè Nature Park. Several distinct interests can guide your choice of destination: trails and high-altitude excursions, murals in various locations, and traces of alpine settlement history. If you are looking for hotels for your trip, you can plan around whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors or explore local cultural themes.

Trails and alpine destinations

The Sentiero del Dahu reaches Castel del Bosco and continues as far as Roreto in Roure. Near Roreto, it crosses the road towards Balma close to the Torrente della Balma. Check trail conditions before setting out so you can plan your hike according to the route described.

Rifugio Selleries is the starting point for numerous hikes and high-altitude excursions in Orsiera Rocciavrè Nature Park. In winter, it can be reached on foot from Villaretto Superiore in Roure; it is open during this season and offers a place to stop for refreshments. As opening arrangements may change and trail conditions vary seasonally, check both before your visit.

Another destination for hiking enthusiasts is the Via Ferrata Nicola Ciardelli. The approach leads from Roreto through the Vallone di Bourcet in the municipality of Roure. The route includes an exposed Tibetan bridge. Check route conditions before using it.

Murals on bread, crafts and alpine farming

The murals in Roure explore several different themes. In Castel del Bosco, there are 27 murals about the history of bread; in Roreto, 34 about traditional crafts. Balma also has 34 murals, this time about the Roussa talc mines. In Villaretto, 30 murals are dedicated to livestock farming. Bread, crafts, mining and livestock farming offer different thematic ways to explore Roure, rather than focusing on a single subject.

Alpine land use is also shaped by the seasons: in summer, cattle and sheep herds graze on Roure’s alpine pastures. Plaisentif is produced at the Alpe Selleries alpine dairy from mid-June to the end of September. The dairy also makes fresh and aged Toma, Toma del lait brusc, Blu di montagna, ricotta and yoghurt. If you would like to include the production process in your trip, check the current operating arrangements in advance.

Alpine settlement history and historic sites

The Vallone di Bourcet can be explored as an open-air museum of alpine settlements. Along the trail, you will encounter alpine pastures, mills, ovens, fountains, churches and traditional stone houses. The variety of structures and places makes this area a good choice if you are interested in settlement history and everyday life in the Alps.

Two churches are also associated with a specific historical context: S. Stefano in Castel del Bosco and the Visitazione in Bourcet were among the churches whose construction received financial support from the King of France. Balm canto is mentioned in connection with prehistoric rock carvings and finds.

Roure therefore offers different starting points for planning your trip: you can focus on trails and excursion destinations, explore the murals by theme, or learn about alpine settlements and historic sites. The combination you choose depends on whether time outdoors in the nature park, cultural history or both is the main focus of your stay.
