Rondissone: Heritage and Cycle Route No. 7
Accommodation in Rondissone
Rondissone combines convenient transport links with a designated cycle route, a Natura 2000 site, and historic buildings. When looking for a hotel, these features can help you organize your trip around your priorities: first, you can decide how you would like to travel and whether cycling, nature, or local history is important to your stay.
Getting here via the A4 or Chivasso railway station
The A4 Torino–Milano–Trieste motorway has an exit for Rondissone, about 1 kilometer from the town. For rail travel, Chivasso railway station is relevant: it is 8 kilometers from Rondissone and serves the Torino–Milano, Chivasso–Aosta, Chivasso–Asti, and Chivasso–Alessandria lines. The onward journey is by bus or car.
This gives you two different arrival points: the A4 exit and the railway station in Chivasso. If you are traveling by train, factor in the onward journey from Chivasso and check the timetables before you travel. The distances given can help you get your bearings, but do not replace checking which connection is right for your travel date.
Cycle route and natural setting along the Dora Baltea
Cycle Route No. 7 of Parco del Po Torinese passes through Rondissone and forms a complete circular route along the Dora Baltea section within the park. The loop starts and ends in Borgo Revel. This makes it easy to distinguish the route through Rondissone from its stated start and end point when including the cycle route in your travel plans.
Another connection with nature is the Natura 2000 site Isolotto del Ritano (Dora Baltea), which includes Rondissone. These two details offer different points of reference: the cycle route has a specific course and endpoints, while the protected area highlights the town’s natural setting. If you are looking for a circular route, No. 7 is the relevant reference. If you are interested in Rondissone’s natural environment, the Natura 2000 site is the relevant designation.
Churches, chapel, and traces of fortifications
The parish church of Saints Vincenzo and Anastasio was built in the Baroque style between 1759 and 1763. Its organ was recently restored. The church thus brings together a clearly dated building and a more recent restoration: the construction dates place the church in its historical context, while the organ is a specific feature of the building today.
The chapel of Beata Vergine delle Grazie was also built in the 18th century. Compared with the parish church, its construction date is less precise: both religious buildings date from this century, but the parish church is additionally dated to 1759–1763. Those interested in local history can therefore distinguish between two church buildings with different levels of chronological detail.
Two other points of interest relate to the history of the fortifications. Of the former fortifications, only an arched gateway remains, at the entrance to a narrow street in the Castello district. A square fortress once stood in the highest part of Rondissone. This distinguishes a surviving arch at a precisely identified location from a former fortress in the town’s highest area. Together with the churches, these traces add an architectural and historical dimension to the picture of local history.
