Pomaretto brings together winegrowing, hiking trails and local cultural history. Terraced vineyards shape two named routes; Tempio valdese, Scuola Latina and Biblioteca del patouà offer different historical and cultural perspectives. These details will help you put these themes into context when planning your trip.

Hiking trails, vineyard terraces and Ramìe

The Sentiero del Ramìe starts and ends at Scuola Latina – Esposizione antichi mestieri in Pomaretto. It runs along sunny slopes, through terraced vineyards and past several ciabot. Its shared starting and ending point provides a clear reference for planning the route.

The Itinerario del Podio e del Ramìe also passes through terraced plots. These were once entirely planted with vines; today, cultivation continues by hand in only a few areas, producing a very limited quantity of the red wine Ramìe. The wine is characteristic of the Pomaretto area and has held the DOC designation “Pinerolese” since 1996. The hiking route is listed as taking 2.5 hours in total, with an elevation gain of 430 metres, and as suitable from March to November. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they may change.

The routes can be considered in terms of different planning details: for the Sentiero del Ramìe, the shared starting and ending point is the main consideration; for the Itinerario del Podio e del Ramìe, the duration, elevation gain and season are useful planning figures.

Cultural history and language

Tempio valdese was built between 1826 and 1828, following approval by King Carlo Felice. Scuola Latina is a centre of local culture: it was inaugurated in 2006 and is managed by the Associazione Amici della Scuola Latina. Its focus is material culture and the minority languages Occitan and French. Alongside architectural history, it also explores everyday culture and languages.

Biblioteca del patouà offers a different cultural perspective. It preserves the complete collection of works by local scholars Arturo Genre and Teofilo G. Pons. While Scuola Latina focuses on material culture and minority languages, the library highlights the works of these two scholars.
