In Piossasco, you can shape your stay around different interests: Monte San Giorgio defines the town, while trails in Parco del Monte San Giorgio and along the Sentieri di Piossasco are ideal for exploring the landscape on foot or by bike. At the same time, churches, a chapel, a castle, and historic settlement remains are among the town’s defining features. If you’re looking for a hotel in Piossasco, you can start by deciding whether hiking, cycling, or the town’s history should be your main focus.

Monte San Giorgio and the park

Monte San Giorgio reaches an elevation of 837 metres and dominates Piossasco. The Parco del Monte San Giorgio is crisscrossed by 30 kilometres of trails. The mountain and its trail network offer two distinct points of reference: the prominent peak and the paths through the park. The park’s official symbol is the rare and protected peony (Paeonia officinalis). It adds a specific botanical feature to the landscape.

Trails on foot, by bike, or on horseback

The Sentieri di Piossasco offer mountain, lowland, and woodland trails for hiking on foot, by bike, or on horseback. A route to Monte San Giorgio reaches the summit via a relatively easy ascent on an unpaved path. This gives you a clear choice between trails through different types of landscape and a specific route to the summit.

The Ciclostrada Piossasco-Pinerolo is designated as a cycling route. It passes through the communities of the foothills and partly uses municipal roads closed to traffic, as well as country lanes through the landscape. Check current route conditions before setting off. Unlike the Sentieri, which include mountain, lowland, and woodland trails, the Ciclostrada uses municipal roads and country lanes.

Churches, the castle, and local history

The church of the Confraternity of Santa Elisabetta consists of three adjoining chapels and features sections of frescoes from the first half of the 15th century. The building’s layout and the dating of the frescoes are two distinct aspects of the same structure. The Chapel of San Giorgio was already in existence in 999. Castello dei Nove Merli probably dates from the 14th or 15th century. These dates mark different historical reference points; the dating of the castle is explicitly uncertain.

The remains of Piossasco’s defensive walls are particularly well preserved along Via del Campetto. Borgo di San Vito, also known as Piazza, developed beside the Ricetto as Piossasco’s first town centre. Alongside religious buildings and the castle, the town’s historical features therefore include traces of fortifications along a specifically named street and the origins of its early settlement centre.
