There are several ways to shape a stay in Cavallo: trails along Lago della Spina, excursion routes, religious history and seasonal markets featuring local produce. The routes described differ mainly in their waypoints. They are complemented by historical connections that can be seen in various places and buildings, as well as events in April. You can use these specific interests to guide your trip planning.

At Lago della Spina: two circular routes

The short Anello corto del Lago della Spina circular route is also suitable for children. It follows the lakeshore to a statue of the Madonna della Spina carved into a tree trunk. The route thus links the lakeshore with a clearly defined destination. For families looking for a walk with a specific point of interest, its stated suitability for children is a useful factor in choosing a route.

The longer Anello lungo del Lago della Spina takes a different approach: following the lakeshore, it leads to a gallery used to fill the lake, then on to a pond and finally to the earth dam. The destinations are therefore clearly distinct: the short circular route focuses on the carved Madonna, while the long one follows a series of stops leading to the dam. The long circular route can be reached from Piazza Risorgimento via a signposted footpath to the lake.

Another named route is the Anello di Caval Donato. Beyond the Frazione Cavallo, it follows Via Osella as far as the SR 29. BeicĂ  'n bike also describes a network of more than 150 kilometres of excursion routes that can be travelled by bicycle, on foot and on horseback. While the individual circular routes specify concrete waypoints, the network description gives an overview of the routes and possible ways to travel them.

Religious history and historical connections

The earliest historical references to the Santuario della Beata Vergine della Spina date back to the 1585 visitation report by the Bishop of Asti, Mons. Domenico della Rovere. The main altar was built in 1632. The dates refer to different aspects: 1585 to the earliest historical references, and 1632 to the main altar.

The votive pillars Pilone dell'Immacolata Concezione and Pilone della Madonna della Guardia are located in Regione Cavallo. The Palio dei Borghi also offers a historical connection to the name Cavallo-Roncaglia: this Borg is one of Pralormo's five historic Borghi. Together with the history of the Santuario, these sites offer a glimpse into different aspects of the area's cultural heritage.

April markets and local produce

Cascine in Piazza takes place every year in April, alongside Messer Tulipano. The market showcases typical local produce, including outstanding food and wine products. During Messer Tulipano in April, the Appuntamento Enogastronomico offers menus featuring products from local farms and agricultural businesses. The two formats have different focuses: one centres on a market and its products, the other on menus featuring agricultural produce. If you plan to time your trip to coincide with one of these events, check the specific event dates in advance.

The SocietĂ  Agricola Agrisapori offers another insight into food production. It runs guided farm visits and workshops where visitors can follow the process of turning milk into ice cream, yoghurt and cheese. The farm is one of Pralormo's educational farms and is located at Strada della Franca 3/1. Those interested in where food comes from and how it is processed will find a specific focus here, in addition to the markets and menus. Ask in advance about the current programme of visits and workshops.
