Casalborgone brings together local history, churches, nature, and regional produce. The town center grew up on the crest of a hill around the castle. For planning your trip, the town’s attractions can be grouped into distinct themes: historic buildings, trails each with their own descriptions, and products that play a role in regional traditions. This lets you organize your stay around the interests that matter to you during your time here.

History and Buildings

The first written record of a settlement in the present-day area of Casalborgone comes from a document dated May 7, 999. A small ricetto was built beside the castle at the end of the 10th century. The ruins of a small tower and a 16th-century entrance gate remain. The time span from the ricetto to the gate shows that the town’s architectural history encompasses more than one historical period.

The churches also represent different functions and periods. Santa Maria Maddalena was once the castle chapel and was enlarged over the centuries. The Church of the Santissima Trinità was built in the 18th century in gratitude for having come through the war against the French army relatively unscathed. San Siro is a medieval church on a hill near the hamlet of Madonnina. To access San Siro, you are asked to collect a key from the parish house beside the parish church of San Carlo, Piazza Carlo Bruna 5. Check before your visit whether key collection is currently possible.

The Teatro San Carlo adds another cultural venue to the church and castle setting. After extensive renovations, it reopened in October 2025.

Forest and Trails

A forest ridge trail runs through the Bosc Grand, connecting Bric Cerro and Bric Turniola. The same forest is home to the Ro Verda, considered a rare, centuries-old oak and a hybrid of the Turkey oak and cork oak. The trail and the oak offer different points of interest: one connects two named locations, while the other is a botanical rarity.

The CIN4 trail connects Lauriano and Casalborgone over a distance of 7.0 kilometers. It takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes to walk, with 339 meters of elevation gain. The approximate duration gives you a time frame for planning your day, while the distance and elevation gain provide further specific details about the route.

Regional Produce and Cuisine

The local Casalborgone pea is recognized by the Piedmont Region as a traditional agricultural and food product. Among the dishes served at the Sagra del Pisello is Gogu, a tortellone filled with peas. This brings a regional product together with a specifically named dish.

The traditional Fiera della Nocciola takes a broader approach: it promotes regional products, handicrafts, and other local specialties. While Gogu represents a particular pea specialty, the fair also covers crafts and other regional themes.

A Hotel with Ties to Local History

Following a conservation-led restoration, the Castello di Casalborgone reopened as a boutique hotel. Here, the history of the castle meets its use as a hotel.
