Brosso appeals to travelers interested in historic mining sites, geological features and sacred architecture. Its trails and buildings reveal different sides of the town, from preserved traces of work to churches with a long history. When planning your trip, it is worth looking at the specific differences between the trails and their distinct cultural themes.

Trails Through the Mining Heritage

The Strada delle Vote runs from Brosso along the left bank of the Torrente Assa to Calea. Along the way, you can see mine entrances, forges and roasting furnaces, as well as large water reservoirs. Chapels and funerary chapels, the Sclopis palaces and the ruins of houses complete the picture. This trail brings together evidence of mining and architectural traces of domestic and religious life.

The Strada delle Vote is fully paved, and the walk is of moderate difficulty. In the Drera e Pian degli Alemanni area, trails lead to old mining sites. The area, which is significant for its historical and cultural heritage, also offers views of the moraine amphitheater. Along the trail, you can see the remains of iron-rich springs with red water, as well as sulfur springs.

The information about the Strada delle Vote and the trail to La Pera Riunda highlights a clear difference: a moderately difficult paved walk contrasts with a challenging trail suited to experienced hikers. This makes it possible to plan a hike based on two specifically identified difficulty levels, without treating the trails as equivalent.

Geological Feature at La Pera Riunda

La Pera Riunda is a huge, mushroom-shaped erratic boulder transported by a glacier. It rests on compacted moraine material. Its shape and geological origin make the boulder a different point of interest from the buildings and work-related remains along the trails. La Pera Riunda can be reached via an old trail within the historic mining area. This trail is challenging and suited to experienced hikers—a key distinction from the paved walk on the Strada delle Vote.

Churches and Cultural History

The parish church of San Michele Arcangelo is said to have been built around the year 1000 and is considered the oldest building in the vicariate and the valley. Its interior features a single-nave layout with nine altars, rich decoration and numerous paintings. The nave is designed in a half-Gothic style, while the chancel is Baroque. The church also houses an organ made by Felice Bossi in 1856. Its architecture, furnishings and precise year of construction reflect different aspects of its history; the date around 1000 remains approximate.

The small church of San Rocco was built in 1630 as a votive church, after the local people made a vow to the saint during a plague epidemic. Today, the church has been deconsecrated and houses a permanent exhibition of minerals and old work tools. In Cà ad Martolo, five exhibition areas cover the themes of the town, its people, history, minerals and work tools.

Traces of Ironworking

Along the Torrente Assa, metallurgical sites with numerous roasting furnaces, washing basins, forges and mechanical stamp mills can be seen. They were used for local ironworking using the low-hearth process, also known as the Brossasca method. Together with the mines, which have long been known for the richness and great variety of their minerals, these sites offer a distinct insight into Brosso’s history of mining and processing.
