Viarigi brings together art, ecclesiastical heritage and a landscape perspective. The murals take up themes and editions of the SaltinPiazza street art festival; the church of Sant’Agata houses a 16th-century polyptych. One stage of the “Cammini delle Alte Colline Ombrose e delle Colline Chiare” ends with a panoramic view over cultivated areas, woodland and hazelnut groves. These offer different points of focus when planning your trip: the themes of the murals, older ecclesiastical art or a route with landscape views. This can help you decide whether the artworks or the connection with the landscape should be the deciding factor for your stay.

Murals with different themes

“Chi sono io? Il saltinbanco dell'anima mia” is dedicated to all artists and to poetry, and was commissioned for the 2019 edition of the SaltinPiazza street art festival. That same year, the mural took first place in the artistic category of the “Dopo l'UNESCO, agisco!” competition. The work thus combines a thematic dedication with a specific competition award.

“Suryas” tells the cycle of the sun across five walls, each measuring about 4 × 2 metres. The work is defined not only by its sun motif but also by its multi-part arrangement. “In equilibrio sul muro” is dedicated to the world of the circus and balance, and was created for the 2020 edition of the SaltinPiazza street art festival. The three murals therefore differ both in subject matter and in their connection to particular festival editions.

Ecclesiastical heritage in Sant’Agata

The church of Sant’Agata houses a 16th-century polyptych attributed to the Maestro di Sant’Agata. A polyptych is a multi-panel artwork. Alongside the murals, it adds a different type of artwork and a much earlier historical period to the area’s artistic appeal. When comparing Viarigi’s cultural attractions, festival art from the 2019 and 2020 editions thus sits alongside a work from the 16th century.

Panoramic views along a stage of the route

Stage 9 of the “Cammini delle Alte Colline Ombrose e delle Colline Chiare” ends with a panoramic view of changing cultivated areas, woodland and hazelnut groves below the Torre dei Segnali, which dominates Viarigi. Here, the view is not focused on a single work of art, but on the different elements of the landscape in the panorama. This offers a distinct focus when planning your trip: the stage connects Viarigi with a specific landscape at the end of a route.

Festival dates and a culinary occasion

The return of the SaltinPiazza street art festival to Viarigi was announced for 29 and 30 August 2026. The programme included a vertical dance performance by Eterea Arte Aerea on the Torre dei Segnali. These dates have now passed. If you want to plan your trip around a festival, check the dates for the relevant edition before making arrangements.

At Viarigi’s 2024 patron saint celebrations, a food-themed evening featured Viarigi-style agnolotti and other specialities. The culinary connection is thus tied to a specific evening during the celebrations. Together with the festival programme, this highlights the difference between time-specific events: one centred on a dance performance, the other on an evening featuring a locally named dish and other specialities.
