Petriano offers a variety of reasons to stay: the Terme di Raffaello, churches with clearly distinct historical and artistic connections, and the Apsa watercourse, which runs through the area. When looking for a hotel in Petriano, it can help to decide first what you want to focus on during your trip. Thermal facilities, sacred art and local history appeal to different interests; the details below offer specific points to help you plan your trip.

Terme di Raffaello: pools, circuits and reservations

The Terme di Raffaello thermal baths include a main pool with a water temperature of 32 degrees, as well as two vascular circuits with different temperatures. The main pool therefore has a specific stated temperature, while the two vascular circuits differ in temperature. All thermal treatments and services are available by telephone reservation only. Check this reservation requirement before your visit, as the rules may change.

Churches and art from different periods

Several historical periods can be distinguished at the Chiesa di Santa Maria in Calafria. The church is mentioned in documents from 1290; its original structural elements date from the 13th century. It was altered in the 17th century. The church also houses the painting “L’Assunta” from 1714, a work by Domenico Giannotti, a painter from Urbino. The dates therefore refer to different aspects: the documentary mention, the original fabric of the building, later alterations and a dated work of art.

The Chiesa di San Martino is considered the oldest church in Petriano and is mentioned in a document from 1069. Its documentary mention therefore predates that of the Chiesa di Santa Maria in Calafria. The painting “S. Martino e S. Giovanni Battista” by Luigi Scorraro is on the main altar of San Martino. The Chiesa di Gallo provides a different point of comparison: it was built in 1956, while a depiction of the Crucifixion from the 17th century is housed inside. The construction date and the date of the depiction refer to two different historical contexts.

The Chiesa di S. Giovanni Battista di Riceci dates from 1779. Its terracotta façade design is reminiscent of certain works created during that period in the ducal city by Giuseppe Tosi, an architect from Urbino.

The Edicola della Madonna dei Sodi also combines a specific date with a particular devotional significance: it was renovated in 1996, and a ceramic copy of the image of the Madonna dei Sodi is venerated there. The ceramic material distinguishes the copy as an object from the paintings mentioned in connection with the churches. The Oratorio della S.S. Concezione is still standing, but is no longer used for services.

The Apsa watercourse

The Apsa watercourse runs through the area of Petriano, adding a landscape dimension to the historic churches and thermal baths.
