Bianzone can be explored through several themes: the terraced vineyards of the Costiera, trails through the surrounding area and a rich cultural heritage. If you’re looking for a hotel in Bianzone, you’ll find information here to help you choose what to explore based on your interests—from winemaking and architecture to circular trails and local traditions.

Wine Country and Local History

The Via del Vino passes through the terraced vineyards of Bianzone’s Costiera. Since 2008, the Ecomuseo delle Terrazze Retiche has preserved and promoted the area’s historical, cultural and landscape heritage. Landscape and history are therefore both at the heart of the experience: the terraces shape local winemaking, while the ecomuseum explores various aspects of the area’s heritage.

Churches, house façades and roadside shrines are also part of Bianzone’s cultural heritage. There are seven churches in the area, including those in its hamlets. Frescoes can be seen on various house façades, and roadside shrines stand along roads leading to meadows and fields. A large part of the interior of the parish church of San Siro is decorated with frescoes by Cipriano Valorsa.

The Statua stele di Bianzone offers another glimpse into the past. It was found in 2021 in Bianzone’s town hall and preserves traces of prehistoric decoration carved into stone 5,000 years ago. Two different periods are brought together here: the discovery in 2021 and the great age of the stone carving.

Winemaking and Local Traditions

Tenuta La Gatta is housed in a restored 16th-century Dominican monastery and surrounded by 13 hectares of nature. The estate includes an old wine cellar, vineyards, an open-air lounge and a historic residence on a Valtellina wine estate. The monastery and winemaking are therefore closely connected in the story of this place.

The story of the wine museum’s creation also reflects the community’s relationship with winemaking. It began with the school project “A spasso nelle vigne”: the project introduced children to winemaking and wine production and involved families in recovering old equipment. The museum’s scope therefore extends beyond the vineyards to include knowledge of winemaking and historic tools.

A local tradition is the Sagra di Sant’Anna in Piazzeda, which is still celebrated in the second half of July. The festival includes a liturgical service in the small church and a day to enjoy typical local dishes. If you’d like to plan your trip around this event, check the latest festival dates.

Circular Trails and Activities

To find your way among the trails described here, it helps to note how they differ. The Col d’Anzana terra di confine is a circular hiking route that starts and ends in Bratta. The Tappe dello Spirito circular route is also suitable for cycling. Both are circular routes; the stated information on their starting points and suitability for cycling is what distinguishes them.

The Sentiero Valtellina is a cycling and walking route from Sondrio to Tirano that passes through Bianzone. Its description combines a longer route between these two places with a stretch through Bianzone. Check current conditions before planning a specific trip. Paragliding is also practised in Nemina Bassa, a high-altitude location in Bianzone—another of the sporting activities mentioned in the area.
