When planning your trip to Ossona, you can explore its historic buildings, a green space, a waterway and a cycling route as distinct points of interest. The town’s history stretches from archaeological finds dating to the 1st century BC to churches, chapels and villas from later centuries. Two local festivals also add their own highlights; an edition of the Fiera di San Bartolomeo is scheduled for 24 August 2027. This allows you to shape your stay around the subjects that interest you, and, if you are visiting for the fair, around a specific date.

Churches, chapels and historical traces

The earliest surviving references to the Chiesa di San Cristoforo date from the 13th century. The Lazzaretto Chapel was built in the 17th century close to the site of a former old lazaretto. Two important frescoes are the reason the small chapel is protected by the heritage authority. The Cappella funeraria Taccioli-Litta, built in 1849, is still visible in Ossona’s cemetery. The dates mark different historical points: the 13th century refers to the earliest references to San Cristoforo, while 1849 is the year the cemetery chapel was built.

Villa Bosi Meraviglia dates from the 19th century. Its main building has three above-ground floors and an L-shaped plan. This describes both its vertical layout and the shape of its floor plan. A convalescent home for children opened in the villa in Ossona on 27 November 1938. The building’s design and the opening of the convalescent home offer two different perspectives on the same building.

Finds dating to the 1st century BC have also been discovered in the municipal area of Ossona, including a cremation tomb containing vessels and tools. These finds represent an early historical period alongside the later ecclesiastical and architectural evidence.

Green space, waterway and cycling route

Parco Bimbilandia is an equipped green space. It offers a different way to experience the area alongside its historic buildings. A main branch of the Canale Villoresi runs through Ossona from north to south, adding a clear connection to the waterway to the area’s features described here.

The Curia Picta route passes through Ossona, is 12 kilometres long and is paved. This gives you the distance and surface type for planning your ride. If you plan to take the route, you can confirm the exact course locally in advance.

Festivals and finding hotels

The Fiera di San Bartolomeo is a local festival with market stalls and associations. An edition is scheduled for 24 August 2027. The Festa patronale di San Cristoforo is a celebration in honour of Ossona’s patron saint. If your trip is connected to the fair, check the date in advance.

If you are looking for hotels for a trip to Ossona, consider what brings you there: will you plan your dates around the scheduled fair, or include cultural history and the cycling route in your trip? This will help you decide whether a fixed event date or a broader focus on the area should guide your plans.
