Melzo between culture and nature
Accommodation in Melzo
Melzo between history, culture and nature
Melzo combines historic sites, cultural activities and a nature area with set visiting hours. To choose your stay, you can start by deciding what matters most: Palazzo Trivulzio and the sacred sites offer different perspectives on the town’s history, while the Oasi della Martesana and the Biblioteca Vittorio Sereni represent other facets of the city. If you are looking for a hotel in Melzo, this distinction can help you tailor your plans to the themes that interest you most.
Palazzo Trivulzio and Teatro Trivulzio
Palazzo Trivulzio brings together several historical functions. Its older section was used as a garrison in the 13th century; from 1499 to 1678, the palace served as a country residence for the Counts Trivulzio. This distinguishes the older section’s military use from its later role as a country residence. The palace is currently home to Teatro Trivulzio. Other events are also held there, and individual dates may change. If you are planning to attend a performance, check which events are taking place during your trip.
Churches and oratories
The central fresco Madonna con Bambino in the Chiesa di Sant’Andrea dates from 1524 and is attributed to Giovanni Agosti Nicola Moietta. In the final years of the 15th century, the Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Stelle was already a place of worship for a Carmelite monastery. Around 1640, the Trivulzio family commissioned the Oratorio di Sant'Antonio as a private oratory. The Chiesa di San Francesco was built in 1647 under the name “Oratorio dei Vivi e dei Morti.” The church’s restoration, then described as its most recent, was completed in 2010. Together, these places offer different historical points of reference: a fresco, use by a monastery, a private commission, and the construction and later restoration of a church.
Oasi della Martesana and outdoor routes
The Oasi della Martesana covers more than 30 hectares and spans the municipalities of Pozzuolo Martesana and Melzo. Visits are possible only when accompanied by volunteers or with their permission, and only on the days and at the times announced on the entrance signs or through the website or social media channels. Check the announcements in advance and make arrangements for the required accompaniment or permission.
A Parc-Sud itinerary passes through Melzo and can be covered on foot or by bicycle. The itinerary description was published in 2019. Check the route and local conditions before planning your trip.
Library and visit planning
The Biblioteca Vittorio Sereni invites visitors to explore its facilities and take part in events, readings, meetings, workshops and evening events. Individual programme details may change, so check what is on during your travel dates.
When choosing a hotel in Melzo, you can first decide what you want your stay to focus on: historic sites, a specific theatre or library programme, or a visit to the Oasi. The differences are practical: the Oasi has announced visiting days and hours as well as access requirements; specific events may be the deciding factor for the theatre and library. If you are travelling for a set date, plan around the visits you want to make.
