Busto Garolfo combines a layered local history with the flat agricultural landscape of Parco del Roccolo. The churches and the Oratorio della Madonna della Neve showcase different construction phases and works of art. The park offers a different range of attractions: irrigation ditches, woodland, bird species, wetlands and paths. If you are looking for a hotel in Busto Garolfo, these differences can help you decide what to focus on during your stay.

Churches, Art and Architectural History

The Chiesa di San Remigio already existed in the 13th century; the Ospedale dei Poveri stood next to it. The church houses a 16th-century PietĂ  and an Annunciation by Bartolomeo Vandone, dating from 1654. The works come from different centuries and offer a tangible impression of how different artistic periods are represented at this historic site.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Salvatore e Margherita was built in the 16th century on the site of a church that had already existed in the 13th century. Its furnishings include a wooden choir stall created by Carlo Garavaglia in 1642. The church also preserves paintings by Giovanni Battista Crespi, known as il Cerano, and by Carlo Naymiller. Here, the older church site, the 16th-century building and later works of art can be viewed as distinct historical layers.

The Oratorio della Madonna della Neve also has a history spanning several phases: it was founded in 1669, demolished in 1934 and rebuilt in a form similar to the original building. The oratory contains a fresco removed from an earlier 16th-century chapel. Its history thus encompasses both changes to the building and the provenance of a surviving work of art.

Casa Battaglia adds an 18th-century house-and-garden complex to these historic landmarks. It has Baroque and Neoclassical influences. Together with the churches and the oratory, it shows that the local history is not limited to a single period of construction or type of building.

Parco del Roccolo: Landscape and Birdlife

Parco del Roccolo is a flat agricultural landscape with a well-preserved irrigation system that is still in use. It includes ditches fed by water diverted from the Villoresi, as well as woodland, hedges and rows of trees. These features describe a landscape where cultivated land and wooded areas lie side by side, and the irrigation system remains part of the area.

The park is home to numerous bird species. Those mentioned include the now-rare sparrowhawk, the hoopoe and the woodpecker. There are also several quarry lakes and wetlands formed as a result of gravel and sand extraction. Both its birdlife and the formation of its bodies of water and wetland areas are therefore important to understanding the park; this does not guarantee that any particular species will be seen.

Paths and Conditions in the Park

Bosco della Brughierezza is in Parco del Roccolo, near Via Casorezzo, and can be reached by bicycle or on foot via a footpath. Via Casorezzo is one block from the Parco Falcone Borsellino car park. This information describes access to the Bosco and the road's proximity to the car park.

Within Parco del Roccolo, the Ciclovia del Canale Villoresi runs for 7 km from Busto Garolfo, Via Inveruno, to Parabiago, Via Einaudi. It follows the canal service road, which the Consorzio Est Ticino Villoresi uses for management and maintenance. If you cycle the route, bear in mind the road's primary purpose: you must not exceed 15 km/h. Some sections have neither guardrails nor an asphalt surface. These conditions are important when planning your ride and distinguish the canal route from a path whose surface and facilities are not described here.

For your travel planning, there are two distinct interests to consider: the churches, the oratory and Casa Battaglia offer dated architectural and art history; in Parco del Roccolo, the landscape, birdlife and the paths described here shape the focus of a stay. You can look for a hotel in Busto Garolfo to suit whichever of these themes matters more to your trip.
