Discover Pescate
Accommodation in Pescate
Pescate combines a lake landscape with trails on Monte Barro and archaeological traces from different periods. If you are looking for a hotel in Pescate, these themes can help you plan your stay: would you like to take a nature trail, explore the lakeshore or learn about the area’s history? The places and trails offer different highlights—from the loop trail and its stops to the lakeside promenade and archaeological sites.
Hiking and nature on Monte Barro
Designated a regional nature park, Monte Barro is an integral part of Pescate’s landscape. Nature trail 312 is a loop route from Pescaline via Bellavista, Baita Pescate, San Michele and Prato degli Avari, returning to the area around Pescate’s cemetery. Along the trail, information points explain the local flora, forests, animals and mushrooms, as well as the spring that feeds the Rio San Michele. This makes the trail an interesting way to explore nature on a circular route.
A separate easy trail runs along the side of Monte Barro facing Pescate, following the Via Crucis degli Alpini di Pescate to the village of San Michele; it is suitable for all ages. Baita Pescate is easily accessible via numerous trails on Monte Barro. Its surroundings offer opportunities for educational activities and nature exploration. Trail 312 loops back to Pescate, while the route via the Via Crucis continues to San Michele—two different routes to consider when planning your outing.
Lake scenery and lakeside trails
The lake along Pescate’s shores is part of the Adda Nord Regional Park. The lake landscape includes parks with facilities; from Parco Le Torrette, you can walk along the lakeside promenade. The lakeshore offers a different focus from the trails on Monte Barro: here, the lake and promenade take centre stage, while the mountain trails feature nature information points.
A cycling and walking route also leads to Parco Addio Monti: the Ciclopedonale del lago di Garlate reaches the park after crossing Ponte Azzone Visconti. A municipal notice dated August 24, 2026 prohibits access to Parco Addio Monti and to the cycling and walking path from Via Alzaia until the end of construction work by ANAS on the Quarto-Ponte project. Check the current closure status before your visit.
Archaeology and local history
Roman graves containing ash urns and bronze pans and ladles from the 1st century BC have been found in Pescate. On Monte Barro, you can visit archaeological buildings and finds from the Gothic period, dating from the late 5th century to the first half of the 6th century. These Monte Barro finds date from a markedly different period than the Roman grave goods in Pescate, offering two distinct archaeological themes from different eras.
A well-marked path leads to the Monte Castelletto archaeological site on a short walk through the woods. There, an information board explains the finds and the history of the structures discovered. The church of Sant’Agata in the village of Pescaline is also part of local history: records confirm that it was already standing in the 13th century.
A literary connection leads back to the lakeshore: in The Betrothed, the shore at Pescate is described as the landing place of the boat carrying Renzo and Lucia during their nighttime escape. Alongside nature trails and archaeological sites, Pescate also offers landscape and literature as distinct themes to explore during your stay.
