Grandola Ed Uniti can be explored through a range of themes: a striking erratic boulder, trails through its hamlets, villas and churches, and a museum about Val Sanagra offer different ways to shape your trip. The following places and routes provide specific starting points.

Landscape and Trails

Pietra Pendula is an erratic boulder wedged in a tributary of the Sanagra. Its position in the water makes it a striking geological feature. Parco della Val Sanagra was established in 2005 at the initiative of the municipalities of Grandola ed Uniti and Menaggio. Its conservation aims encompass the area's natural, historical and scenic values. Sass Corbée is also connected with the park: it can be reached via the trails of Parco della Val Sanagra.

The route A stroll through the hamlets passes through all the hamlets of Grandola ed Uniti. It links historic villas, churches and washhouses around the hamlet squares. The historic route of the former Menaggio–Porlezza railway is different: it has been converted into a cycle and pedestrian path that runs through the area of Grandola ed Uniti and the hamlet of Cardano. One route brings together architectural and local history across all the hamlets; the other follows the former railway line as a cycle and pedestrian path.

Villas and Churches

Villa Camozzi was built by the De Guaita family in the second half of the 18th century. At Villa Corti Cerletti, the interiors are among the highlights: it preserves vaulted ceilings decorated with frescoes and stucco, wooden ceilings and a mosaic floor in the music room. The villa also contains a fresco depicting the Flagellation of Jesus, dated 1535.

The Chiesa di S. Gottardo also has notable historical and architectural details. Casimiro De Rossi, Bishop of Capua, consecrated the church in 1639. Its nave is single-aisled, and there are three side chapels dedicated to the Madonna Assunta, S. Gottardo and Madonna di Lourdes. “Single-aisled” means that the main space consists of one nave. The church’s consecration date, floor plan and chapel dedications can therefore be distinguished.

Museum and Working Life

The Museo Etnografico e Naturalistico della Val Sanagra covers fauna, flora, palaeontology and ethnography. Fauna and flora refer to animal and plant life; palaeontology studies early life and its traces, while ethnography focuses on human cultures and ways of life. Together, the four themes range from the natural world to human history. The GiocaMuseo – Avventura in Val Sanagra app enables children and young people to explore the museum through culture and nature.

La Casa dei Fornaciai offers a different perspective on working and home life. It contains a faithfully reconstructed typical home of brick-kiln workers, furnished with authentic furniture, tools and objects. The reconstructed home thus showcases both domestic furnishings and work equipment. Fornace Galli is considered the best-preserved example of pre-industrial archaeology in the Val Sanagra area.

Rogolone can also be precisely dated: it has been protected as a national monument since 18 December 1928. Along with the dated histories of buildings and churches, this protected status offers another historical reference point, while the route, former railway line and park trails offer different ways to explore natural and cultural heritage.
