San Felice Del Benaco offers a cultural and scenic focus for planning your trip. Historic churches and an early medieval refuge tell stories of different eras; a hiking route leads through olive groves and offers views of Lake Garda and the Rocca di Manerba. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay—such as architectural history, religious heritage, or natural scenery. The various sites differ in their period, function, and what has been preserved.

Churches from Different Centuries

The Santuario della Madonna del Carmine dates back to the 15th century and was solemnly consecrated on January 17, 1482. Frescoes by unknown painters from the 15th and 16th centuries adorn its walls. This sanctuary thus brings together a precisely dated consecration and wall decorations spanning two centuries. The Santuario is also a destination for pilgrims from Italy and abroad. For a culturally oriented stay, both its religious significance and its frescoes form part of the picture of this place.

In Pieve, the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista reflects a different architectural history. The present-day church was built around 1570, after the earlier Romanesque church had been demolished. The former bell tower and some walls of the rectory were preserved. The church also houses wood carvings by the sculptor Giacomo Luchini from the early 18th century. In contrast to the Santuario, whose consecration dates to 1482, Pieve is defined by the construction of a new church around 1570 and craftsmanship from a later period.

Fortifications, a Palace, and Social History

Castello di Portese was built in the early Middle Ages as a refuge for protection against raids. Today, only part of a round tower remains. Its history can therefore be considered through two distinct aspects: its former protective function and the surviving section of the tower. Palazzo Rotingo, on the other hand, dates back to the 18th century. Its features include finely decorated wooden coffered ceilings, coats of arms, and allegorical figures. Here, decorative details take center stage, while Castello is characterized above all by its former defensive function and the surviving section of the tower.

The Fondazione Raffaele Cominelli is based in a historic palace in Cisano, within the municipality of San Felice del Benaco. Another historic reference is the Monte di Pietà: this charitable institution provided interest-free loans to people in need. The area’s history thus includes not only religious buildings and fortifications, but also a social institution with a specific function.

Landscapes and Activities

The Chiesetta di San Fermo was built in the 15th century and stands on the San Fermo promontory, opposite Isola del Garda. The island lies on the Brescia shore of Lake Garda, not far from San Felice del Benaco. The chapel can therefore be considered both in terms of its date of construction and its position opposite the island; the island itself has its own geographical connection to the shore and the town.

A hiking route in San Felice del Benaco leads through olive groves and offers views of Lake Garda and the Rocca di Manerba. This gives it a different focus from the historic buildings: here, the landscape and views take center stage. Check the route conditions before hiking. At Baia del Vento, parasols, sun loungers, pedal boats, and canoes are available for rent. As availability may vary, check in advance whether the service you want is available if you are interested.
