Discover Flero: Culture and History
Accommodation in Flero
Flero can be explored on two scales: the historic cultural sites within the municipality and the wider landscape of Monte Netto. This distinction can help with planning your trip, separating local buildings and facilities from themes relating to the park area. Flero is one of the municipalities within the protected Parco Regionale Agricolo del Monte Netto.
Place and Landscape in Monte Netto
Monte Netto Park brings together its hilly landscape and the surrounding countryside with the Mella River valley and historic town centres. This places Flero in a broader regional context. The park landscape therefore offers a different perspective on the destination from the specific cultural sites within the municipality. When exploring Flero, you can distinguish local history and cultural offerings from the broader landscape and wine-related themes of Monte Netto.
Historic Sites and Culture in Flero
Villa Grasseni is a historic villa with a public park. The building houses Flero’s municipal library, a music school, a painting school and several associations. The villa thus brings together a range of municipal, cultural and community uses in one place. The connection between the building and the park is also useful for getting your bearings: the villa comprises both the facilities inside the building and the publicly accessible park.
Historic Palazzo Calzaveglia Avogadro has a different cultural role. The building hosts exhibitions and cultural initiatives. In contrast to Villa Grasseni, which houses a library, schools and associations, the Palazzo focuses on exhibitions and cultural initiatives. This makes it possible to place two historic buildings with different roles within your exploration of the town.
Flero’s more distant past is also present: a small, original church dedicated to Saint Paul was built here in the 12th century. The church takes the town’s history back to the Middle Ages; its original form and dedication give it a distinct place alongside today’s cultural sites.
Theatre, Music and Activities
Teatro Le Muse adds theatre and music to the town’s cultural landmarks. For the 2025/2026 season, the theatre presented its ninth theatre and music season. The Festival Bandistico di Flero was also part of the programme that season: its 20th edition was held from 17 to 19 October.
AQVASPORT Flero offers aquagym classes for participants of all ages. Monte Netto Park’s environmental education programme also includes guided visits to a wetland for school groups. During these visits, groups observe the local flora and fauna and collect water samples for analysis. The activities differ in theme and target audience: aquagym is a fitness activity, while the wetland programme combines nature observation with water sampling and is specifically intended for school groups.
Winegrowing in the Regional Context
Winegrowing is also part of Monte Netto’s regional character. Capriano, Flero and Poncarale have a combined total of around 150 hectares of vineyards, divided among 113 professional and family-run businesses. This figure covers the three municipalities together. The DOC grape varieties in the Monte Netto area include Sangiovese and Marzemino among the red grapes, and Trebbiano Toscano or Lugana among the white grapes.
