Treviglio brings together city history, sacred art, science and agriculture. Possible highlights of your stay include a multi-storey history trail, museums covering different subjects and a walk along the route of the former city walls. The recreational area of Parco del Roccolo and cycling routes along the nearby Adda also offer options for planning your trip.

History, Marian Devotion and Art

The Santuario della Beata Vergine delle Lacrime was built between 1594 and 1619. It is a longstanding focus of Marian devotion and is associated with a miraculous event. The Museo Storico Verticale in the Torre Civica offers a different way to explore Treviglio’s history: its interactive multimedia tour spans seven floors and traces the city’s history. Sacred tradition and city history are thus distinct themes to explore.

La Porta del Cielo opened in February 2024 as an exhibition and museum space. It is particularly known for the Polittico di San Martino, created in the 15th century by Bernardino Butinone and Bernardo Zenale. The work provides a specific art-historical point of reference: you can focus your plans on a named work and the period in which it was created. La Porta del Cielo is also accessible to visitors with mobility impairments; a lift provides access to the upper floor of the Sala dei Confratelli. Check access arrangements before your trip.

Museums with Different Areas of Focus

The Museo Civico “Ernesto e Teresa Della Torre” presents seven centuries of art history in a single room. On display are works by artists from across Europe, as well as examples of numerous artistic forms and movements. The Museo Scientifico Explorazione has a distinctly different focus: it features more than 60 interactive exhibits, most of which concern physics. This gives you the choice between a broad art-historical perspective and a primarily scientific subject.

The Museo Archeologico displays archaeological finds from the Treviglio area, including a reconstruction of a Gallo-Roman tomb discovered in Treviglio’s historic centre. Agriculture is also presented from different perspectives: the Museo SAME illustrates the development of agricultural mechanisation through historical models, prototypes and archival documents. The Agrimuseo Orizzontale explores the history of agriculture and the area’s farming traditions. While the Museo SAME focuses on technological development, the Agrimuseo centres on history and traditions.

Walks and Seasonal Trip Planning

A walk around Treviglio’s historic centre follows the route of the former city walls, connecting with the city’s past fortifications. The recreational area of Parco del Roccolo is open to visitors free of charge, with opening hours that vary by season. Check the current hours before visiting, as access arrangements may change.

For cycling, there are routes in the surrounding area along the nearby River Adda, easily reached from Treviglio. This is a different kind of outing from visiting the museums or walking around the historic centre: you can plan your trip around either cultural attractions or cycling routes in the surrounding area, without combining the two.

Plan Your Journey

Treviglio railway station has a total of 11 passenger tracks. As information about station infrastructure may change during construction work, check it before your trip.
