Parzanica lies at an altitude of 750 m, on a natural terrace overlooking Lake Iseo and Monte Isola. The village stretches across a plateau facing the lake and comprises the two districts of Guelph and Ghibelline. Its elevation, views and village layout give you concrete points to consider when planning your trip. This lets you weigh up in advance whether the landscape, village character or both match your interests.

At the mouth of the Valle dei Foppi is a small group of restored fishermen’s houses. This group of restored houses provides another architectural feature alongside the churches. Together with the districts and the plateau, they bring different scales of the settlement into view.

Trails between viewpoints and elevation gains

The Le cinque cime di Parzanica route offers views of Lake Iseo. Another concrete planning reference is the trail from Via Belvedere to Santissima TrinitĂ  Sanctuary: it is rated easy, is 1 km long, takes 30 minutes and has an elevation difference of 189 m. You can consider the distance, time and elevation difference together, rather than assessing the route by just one figure.

On the Hills of Parzanica route, the trail’s course is the main focus. It starts on a small road closed to traffic and marked with CAI sign 721. First, it follows a paved mule track, then a steeply ascending path to the Church of Santissima Trinità at 969 m. The route then continues along the slopes of Monte Creò at 1106 m.

The information about the two trails provides different points of reference: for the trail from Via Belvedere, the difficulty rating, duration, length and elevation difference are given; for Hills of Parzanica, the changes in terrain and elevation points are described. If you plan your hikes around time and distance, the figures for the first trail provide a concrete guide. For the second route, the described course, with its steep ascent and two elevation points, is what stands out.

Churches and local history

A precisely dated visit is associated with the Church of San Colombano: on 19 September 1575, the Archbishop of Milan, Carlo Borromeo, visited the church in Parzanica. This historical event links a specific place to a person and a particular date.

The small Church of San Mauro in the Acquaiolo district offers a different kind of detail. Its front has an open portico with three round arches. Its design is therefore defined by a clear architectural feature: the open porch and the sequence of three arches.

The two churches offer different points of interest for your trip planning: San Colombano through a historical event, and San Mauro through its described architecture. Alongside the views and trails, you can take these local and historical themes into account when deciding whether Parzanica is right for your trip.
