Discover Dalmine
Accommodation in Dalmine
Dalmine can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: its development as a company town, a surviving architectural landmark, collections with historical and cultural connections, and a municipal network of cycling and walking paths. Whether you are more interested in urban planning, historic memorial sites, collections, or cycling and walking routes, each offers a different starting point for your stay.
Company Town and Urban Planning
The Torre Camozzi is the only surviving remnant of a fortified farm complex that was demolished in 1908 to make way for the “Dalmine” industrial facilities. The tower thus illustrates the transition from an older architectural setting to industrial development.
The Fondazione Dalmine offers a bookable visit exploring Dalmine as a company town and a changing industrial landscape. On the streets, visitors examine the urban planning project by architect Giovanni Greppi; maps and historical photographs are analyzed to identify the defining features of the company town. The street-level project and its interpretation through maps and images therefore provide two complementary perspectives on the visit. If you plan to visit, check the available dates.
Historic Sites and Collections
The air-raid shelter in the “Garbagni” workers’ district was built in 1943 and could accommodate around 500 people. The year of construction places the shelter in its historical context, while its approximate capacity indicates the scale of the refuge. The dates refer to different events: 1908 marks the demolition of the farm complex to make way for the industrial facilities, while 1943 marks the construction of the air-raid shelter in the workers’ district. This makes it possible to distinguish the changes to the built environment around Torre Camozzi from the construction of the shelter, both chronologically and thematically.
The Biblioteca Dall’Ovo preserves the book and documentary heritage of the Bava, Dall’Ovo, De Chaurand and Poletti families. The display cases at the Museo del Presepio di Dalmine contain nativity scenes from various countries and regions. For travelers interested in collections, these present two distinct themes: family heritage in book and document form, and nativity scenes from a wide range of geographical origins.
Cycling and Walking Routes
The existing municipal cycling and walking network covers around 14 km, including 2 km of nature trails along the Brembo. The figures refer to different things: approximately 14 km for the network as a whole and 2 km for the nature trail section within it. If you use these figures for planning, keeping this distinction in mind will help you avoid confusing the shorter riverside route with the length of the entire network.
Another cycling-related facility is the Velodromo Comunale. The municipal facility is currently being renovated and has synthetic and concrete surfaces for football and track cycling. The two are distinct: the network consists of routes, while the Velodromo is a municipal sports facility with the specified surfaces and sports. As the facility is currently being renovated, check its current status before visiting.
