Bagnella brings together the Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta and its history, hiking trails, a festival and a project centred on old farmhouses. This gives you different ways to plan your trip: you can focus your visit on the church, the H15 trail through woodland or the festival’s usual date. The cultural themes range from church history to a celebration of traditional flavours and inherited knowledge.

Church and history

The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta is in Bagnella and dates to the 16th century. The CAI hiking trail SLB05 passes by it; the church is also listed as a place of interest in Serina. In 1480, a decree by Bishop Ludovico Donato separated it from the mother church in Lepreno. A fire caused by a lightning strike destroyed the church in 1775. In 1909, it was extended by one additional bay, with a corresponding dome. A bay is a section of a church interior; the extension therefore refers to a specific architectural detail.

H15 and CAI trail SLB05

For hikers, the two trails differ in their routes. The H15 Rosolo-Bagnella-Cornalba tourist trail connects Bagnella with Cornalba through woodland, where it joins a fitness trail equipped with exercise stations. The route runs at an altitude of between 626 and 874 metres; the stated elevation difference is 248 metres. A GPX track for the H15 is also available to download and use in your preferred app. By contrast, the CAI trail SLB05 passes by the church. If you want to include this in your plans, the route of the SLB05 past the church is the specific point to note; the H15 focuses on the woodland connection to Cornalba and its elevation range. Check current trail conditions before setting out on a hike.

Festival and traditional farmhouses

The Bagnella festival supports charitable causes and is usually held on the third weekend of July. If you want to combine your trip with the festival, check the specific dates before booking and plan your travel dates accordingly. The old farmhouses offer a different cultural focus. Following restoration and conservation work, they were restored and opened their doors to celebrate traditional flavours and inherited knowledge. While the festival is defined by its charitable purpose and usual July timing, the celebration in the farmhouses centres on passing on flavours and knowledge.

Planning your stay

When looking for a hotel in Bagnella, these themes can help you decide what to plan your trip around: the church and SLB05 offer a different focus from the H15 woodland connection, and a visit for the festival depends on its specific dates. So first decide which of these experiences you want to shape your stay. If the festival is the deciding factor, check your dates against the event schedule; if you plan to hike, take current trail conditions into account.
