Andora combines fine sandy beaches with nature watching, trails and cultural sites. The seabed off the town is also sandy and slopes gently. When choosing where to stay, it’s worth keeping these different aspects in mind: beach activities, nature watching and culture each offer their own highlights.

Beach and seaside activities

Andora’s beaches have very fine, natural sand. Along the western promenade, there is a free, publicly accessible corridor to the sea that allows windsurfing during the summer season. As seasonal access rules may change, check the conditions before your visit.

Surfing and kitesurfing are other activities available in Andora; their availability may vary by provider and season. Whale-watching trips depart from the harbour. Providers and timetables are seasonal, so it’s a good idea to check the latest departures before making plans.

Nature and the best seasons

At the mouth of the Merula lies the Oasi del Merula, a wetland of regional importance within the Andora settlement area. More than 50 bird species have been observed there. Autumn and spring are considered the best seasons for birdwatching. While windsurfing at the corridor is tied to the summer season, this nature-focused activity is best enjoyed during the shoulder seasons. So activities differ not only by interest, but also by the time of year you travel.

The Pelagos Sanctuary flag also flies at Andora harbour. It is another visible connection to the sea, right at the harbour.

Trails and hiking destinations

The Sentiero delle Orchidee bypasses the transmission facilities and descends gently towards Parco Ciappà and Cervo. Cervo is a separate nearby town. The route information describes its direction and gradient to help guide your choice of trail.

Another option is stage 23 of the Sentiero Liguria: it starts in Andora and ends in Albenga’s historic centre. The routes described therefore differ clearly in their orientation: for the Sentiero delle Orchidee, the downhill course and direction towards Parco Ciappà and Cervo are the main points, while stage 23 has a specified start and end point. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out.

Church, museum and contemporary art

In Borgo Castello stands the Church of Saints James and Philip, a well-preserved Romanesque building dating from the 12th or 13th century. It has a basilica-style floor plan with three naves. You can reach the church on foot via paths to Borgo Castello, some of which climb uphill; take these sections into account when planning your visit.

The Museo Mineralogico Luciano Dabroi houses a collection of more than 5,000 specimens donated to the municipality of Andora by Dr Luciano Dabroi. It also offers an educational trail or guided learning tour for school students and other interested visitors.

Palazzo Tagliaferro is home to the Contemporary Culture Center, an exhibition space for contemporary art curated by Whitelabs. The palazzo also has two viewing terraces overlooking Parco delle Farfalle, the sea and the hills of Andora.

Local cuisine and Festa delle Erbe Aromatiche

The Festa delle Erbe Aromatiche is held every year in Rollo and is dedicated to the flavours of Liguria and medicinal herbs. Check the current event dates when planning your trip.
