Nervi: Seafront promenade, parks and museums
Accommodation in Nervi
Nervi offers a variety of options for a stay: the Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi seafront promenade, the Parchi di Nervi and several villas with museums and collections.
Coastal path and gardens
The Passeggiata Anita Garibaldi stretches for about 2 km from the port of Nervi to the ancient landing place of Capolungo. Its approximate length and two endpoints give the route a clear framework for planning your day. Its connection to the coast sets this path apart from the garden and museum themes that also shape Nervi.
Typical Mediterranean flora meets exotic and tropical plants in the Parchi di Nervi. The Nervi rose garden adds to this botanical theme: it was established in 1981 on the initiative of Luigi Viacava. Thus, diverse plant life and a garden with a specific year of creation stand side by side as distinct aspects of the landscape.
Villas and collections
The GAM, the Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Genova, is housed in Villa Saluzzo Serra. The 16th-century villa was an aristocratic residence in the Parchi di Nervi and overlooks the sea. In front of the museum is a romantic little woodland with a stream and pond. Here, the building’s history, its location in the park and its own garden area come together.
The Raccolte Frugone are housed in Villa Grimaldi Fassio. Lazzaro Frugone donated collections to the city of Genoa in 1935, and Luigi Frugone followed with another donation in 1953. The holdings include canvases, marble sculptures and bronzes from the Belle Époque, that is, the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The dates place the two donations in chronological context; the materials and period also give an impression of the collections’ variety.
The Museo Giannettino Luxoro houses valuable night clocks from the late 17th century, 18th-century furniture and furnishings, as well as nativity figurines. Villa Luxoro was designed from the outset as a house museum. Pietro Luxoro designed the building, which was built in 1903 in the Capolungo area of the Parchi di Nervi. Nervi therefore brings together different forms of collecting and museum history: a villa conceived from the outset as a house museum and collections whose origins are linked to donations.
