Tragliata: Borgo, History and Walking Routes
Accommodation in Tragliata
Tragliata is a good choice for a trip that combines history, village walks and regional cuisine. The focus is the fortified Borgo di Tragliata; other points of interest include routes with Roman and Etruscan remains, the parish church of Sant'Isidoro and cultural events.
A fortified Borgo with a long history
The origins of the Borgo di Tragliata date back to Etruscan and Roman times. The landscape protection measure for the Aree collinari dell’Agro Romano settentrionale also includes the fortified Borgo. Castello di Tragliata was built between the 9th and 10th centuries for defensive and observation purposes. It was later converted into a country house used for residential purposes and agricultural production. A historic paved road connected the ancient settlement of Tragliata with the important settlement of Castel Campanile.
Historic routes on foot and by bike
Numerous routes around the Borgo offer a chance to discover Roman and Etruscan remains. A route description from 2021 describes the first walk of the Cammino delle città perdute as approximately 6 km long and taking about 3 hours. The walk leads from the square below Castello di Torrimpietra to the Borgo di Tragliata. This gives you an approximate time and distance for the tour; check the current route and accessibility before setting out.
Tragliata is also part of a cycling route: the Cycling Mirabilia Lazio bike tour runs from Fiumicino to castles and villages inland, including Tragliata. While an approximate distance and duration are available for the walk, the cycling tour includes the village as one of several destinations. Check the current route before planning your trip.
Regional cuisine and events in the Borgo
A visit to Tragliata combines a walk through the village with regional specialties at the Borgo’s agriturismo. Be sure to confirm dining availability separately. Since 1999, the Borgo di Tragliata has been an organic farm certified by AIAB/ICEA.
The Chiesa di Sant'Isidoro is Tragliata’s parish church in the Diocese of Porto Santa Rufina. It can be used for private celebrations such as anniversaries and weddings; make the booking arrangements in advance. Woodstock a Tragliata features live music, food and crafts. The festival takes place in the Borgo di Tragliata under the patronage of the Comune di Fiumicino; the program may vary from one edition to another.
