When planning a trip to Tor San Lorenzo, several themes come together: the shallow, sandy beach and the archaeological and historical features of this stretch of coast. The following sections describe the coastal landscape and access points separately from Castrum Inui and the Torre di San Lorenzo.

Beach and Coastal Stretch

The beach at Tor San Lorenzo is shallow and sandy. The beach is more than 60 meters deep throughout the area between the SID line and the shoreline. There are 15 designated beach access points at the ends of the access roads. The measurement of beach depth and the number of access points refer to different features of this stretch of coast. The coastline may change over time; the number of access points may change as a result of later works. Before your arrival, check which access points are currently usable.

Angez Dog Beach is located on the Tor San Lorenzo seafront promenade at kilometer 22.300. On November 26, 2025, the municipality described the area as an equipped dog beach. Before your trip, check the current regulations for the dog beach.

Archaeological Traces and Torre di San Lorenzo

At the beginning of the Tor San Lorenzo coastal stretch, the archaeological area includes remains of harbor structures, a fortified center from Roman times and an older sacred area. The Roman harbor and fortress have been identified as Castrum Inui. The description thus brings together several types of remains: a harbor, fortifications and a sacred area from an earlier period.

The Torre di San Lorenzo, also known as La pomposa, was completed in 1570 after three years of construction. It is more than 30 meters high. The design is traditionally attributed to Michelangelo Buonarroti.

Dunes and Botanical Garden Design

A coastal dune landscape lies near the historic Torre di San Lorenzo. The dunes add another landscape feature to the description of the beach: the shallow, sandy beach and the dunes describe different aspects of the coast. This distinction helps you consider the nature of the beach and the appearance of the landscape separately.

The Giardini della Landriana are divided into botanical “rooms,” each defined by a distinctive botanical feature. Here, “rooms” describes the garden’s layout: the division into areas, each with its own botanical character, is part of its design. This makes it possible to appreciate the garden through its structure, not just its individual features.

Local Feast Day and Other Leisure Interests

On August 10, the Tor San Lorenzo district celebrates its patron saint. If you are planning your trip around this date, check the latest event information in advance.

The Golf Club Mare di Roma includes a clubhouse with a recreation area and a billiards room. The bar offers a view of the driving range and the pool surrounded by palm trees. This focus differs from the beach and historical features: the clubhouse centers on the recreation area, billiards room and the view from the bar.
