Lignano Pineta combines a spiral urban plan with plenty of greenery. It also features squares, parks, art and a cycle and pedestrian path accessible to people with reduced or limited mobility. If you are looking for a hotel, these different interests can help you focus on what the area has to offer: Would you like to include architecture and art in your stay, make use of park paths, or explore outdoor sports and play facilities? The following sections show how these options differ.

Spiral, square and church

Architect Marcello D'Olivo designed Lignano Pineta in 1953 in the form of a spiral. This layout brings shops and services together at the centre, while greenery is also an integral part of the design. Two aspects therefore sit side by side in the townscape: a clearly recognisable spatial order and green areas. The spiral is more than a design catchphrase: it describes a layout in which the centre and green structure belong together. Those interested in urban planning can use this form as a starting point before exploring individual buildings and parks. This makes it possible to recognise the urban design concept in specific places.

The Cristo Redentore church is part of the distinctive urban design and faces Piazza Rosa dei Venti at the centre of the spiral. Its exterior was completed in 1971; the design apparently recalls fishermen's huts. The church thus offers two points of interest: its integration into the urban layout and the distinctive design of its exterior. It is a specific landmark within the spiral-shaped plan.

Art and greenery at Parco del Mare

Greenery and art come together at Parco del Mare. The green space is ideal for long walks and spending time in nature. It also displays works by Simon Benetton and Luciano Ceschia, as well as works by all the artists who took part in the ten editions of the “Simposio internazionale di scultura su pietra di Aurisina” between 2001 and 2010. The park therefore offers access both to a sculpture exhibition and to a green space for longer walks. For reference, Parco del Mare is located between Viale a Mare and Lungomare Alberto Kechler, 33054 Lignano Pineta (UD).

Paths, sports and play at Parco Hemingway

Parco Hemingway has a different focus. Its facilities include a network of paths, as well as sports and children's play facilities. Compared with Parco del Mare, with its sculptures and suitability for long walks, the focus here is on paths, physical activity and children's play. If you compare the two parks, you can ask yourself a specific question: Are you more interested in the artworks and walks, or in the sports and play facilities?

An accessible cycle and pedestrian route

The cycle and pedestrian path of Itinerario n. 6 – Nel profumo di resina is accessible to people with reduced or limited mobility. If accessibility is a factor in your plans, this specifically named route is a useful reference point. It complements the different park facilities with another way to experience Lignano Pineta.

The history of the Festa delle Cape

The Festa delle Cape began in 1984 with an idea from a group of professional fishermen. Its origins offer a different perspective on history from the spiral design: here, the initiative of professional fishermen came first; there, the work of architect Marcello D'Olivo. In Lignano Pineta, urban design and a festival tradition with its own origins thus come together as distinct cultural themes.
