Perticara offers reasons to stay that bring nature, outdoor activities and local history into focus. Around Monte Aquilone, outdoor activities and marked trails take centre stage; forest art, mining history and remembrance are also part of the town’s character. When choosing your destination, you can therefore consider whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors or also include cultural and historical themes.

Outdoors at Monte Aquilone

The Skypark in Perticara offers outdoor adventures and sports activities, with courses among the tall, old trees on Monte Aquilone. It operates seasonally; check current opening times before travelling.

Marked trails cross the mountains of Perticara, Pincio and Aquilone and can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. CAI Trail 096 climbs to the summit of Monte Aquilone, where the view stretches across a large part of Valmarecchia. This means there are trails across several mountains as well as a clearly identified summit destination with a far-reaching panorama.

Perticara also has a take-off site for hang-gliding and opportunities for climbing on natural rock faces. If you plan to take part in these activities, check the current take-off or climbing conditions before using them.

Forest Art and Mining History

The Luoghi Minimi installation is based on an idea by Tonino Guerra and is located in the forest on the eastern slope of Monte Aquilone near Perticara. A footpath leads there from Sky Parc, involving a descent of about 20 minutes. This sets the destination apart from the Skypark: here, the path leads to an installation in the forest, while the Skypark focuses on courses among tall trees and sports activities. As trail conditions can change, check them before setting out.

The Museo Minerario in Perticara includes an educational mine with a scenographically reconstructed tunnel. There, the sequence of mining techniques is brought to life in a realistic underground setting. Check the current visitor arrangements when planning your trip.

The Church of Santa Barbara in Miniera also reflects the history of the miners: they built it themselves as a votive offering to protect the workers. The traditional Ferragosto celebrations in Perticara combine the Feast of the Assumption with remembrance of the miners who lost their lives working in Europe’s largest sulphur mine. The church represents a plea for protection, while the festival commemorates the deceased; both connections bring mining to life as part of local history.

Perticara as a stop on a motorcycle route

Perticara is a stop on the 130-kilometre motorcycle route “Alla scoperta del formaggio di fossa”. Route details can change, so check the current route before planning your trip. Keep two different distances in mind: 130 kilometres refers to the entire motorcycle route, while about 20 minutes is the approximate duration of the descent from Sky Parc to the Luoghi Minimi installation.

Perticara’s attractions offer a range of experiences: mountain trails, views and activities on rock faces sit alongside a forest installation and traces of the mining past. This makes it easy to decide whether you want to include outdoor activities, cultural themes or both in your stay.
