Coriano: Motor Racing History, Cultural Heritage and Hotels

Coriano brings together several themes to consider when planning a trip: Marco Simoncelli’s motor racing history, historic buildings and memorial sites, as well as trails through the Marano area and wine country. When choosing a focus, you can look at the specific differences: one circular route passes wineries, the CAI031 is listed with its length and elevation gain, and a permanent cycling route connects several municipalities.

Motor Racing and Historic Buildings

La Storia del Sic is a gallery and museum about motorcycle racer Marco Simoncelli’s achievements in motor racing and his life beyond the sport. The venue has three themed rooms and displays more than 15 helmets and 12 racing suits. It places sporting achievements and biographical aspects side by side.

As early as the 11th to 12th centuries, Castello Malatestiano di Coriano was one of the major fortifications in the Rimini area. Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta offers a different historical perspective: it was consecrated on September 13, 1953, but houses a wooden crucifix from the 13th century. A festival is also held in the church every three years, on the third Sunday in September.

Memorial Sites and Architecture

The English Military Cemetery in Coriano contains 1,939 graves of soldiers of various nationalities. CORTE Coriano Teatro is a 19th-century building that survived the war; its historic exterior has been preserved. Coriano is therefore home both to a memorial site with an exact number of graves and to a building whose historic exterior has been retained.

Museo Elisabettiano is next to a church and is dedicated to Blessed Elisabetta Renzi, founder of the Maestre Pie dell’Addolorata order. Telephone reservations are recommended for Museo Elisabettiano.

The Marano, Walking Trails and Wine Country

Parco Fluviale del Marano extends along the river basin through the section within the municipality of Coriano. The PERCORSO ESCURSIONISTICO CAI031 offers wide views over the Marano Valley and towards the inland area. The view stretches between the castles of Montescudo, Gemmano, Montefiore and Saludecio.

The CAI031 is 10.5 kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 362 metres and is classified by the CAI as a T-rated hiking trail. It starts at Parco del Marano, where there is a car park, places to rest and a kiosk serving refreshments. The kiosk’s operating schedule may vary. Its length, elevation gain and rating provide specific information to help you assess the hike.

The Circuito delle cantine – Passano is a scenic circular route through the Coriano countryside that passes several wineries. Nearby are Podere Bianchi, Tenuta Santini and the organic farm Azienda Agricola biologica Valle delle Lepri; these wine producers make high-quality local products. This makes the circular route different from the CAI031: here, the focus is on the wine country and proximity to the producers, while the CAI031 is described in terms of its hiking details and views towards the inland area.

If you’d like to include a cycling route in your travel plans, the Tour dei Campioni is a permanent route connecting Tavullia, Morciano, Montescudo/Monte Colombo, Coriano, Misano Adriatico and Gradara. It links several municipalities; the walking trails, by contrast, are described either as a circular route through the Coriano countryside or as a CAI hiking trail.
