Marina Romea offers long beaches and is surrounded by centuries-old pine forests; at the same time, the waters of Pialassa della Baiona reach the town. Behind Marina Romea lies the Pineta Miserocchi, a protected coastal forest. The coast, forest and water therefore define distinct facets of this destination.

Dune strip, coastal forest and Pialassa

The “Pialasse Baiona, Risega e Pontazzo” protected area includes the dune strip where the settlements of Marina Romea and Porto Corsini are located. The Pineta Miserocchi is part of the Po Delta Regional Park and the Natura 2000 network. It lies behind Marina Romea, right next to Pialassa della Baiona. The area around the town thus features three clearly distinct landscape elements: the dune strip with its settlements, the protected coastal forest and the waters of Baiona. The distinction is useful for finding your way around: the Pineta refers to the forest, while the Pialassa refers to the water that Marina Romea borders. If you plan your trip around particular landscapes, you can therefore regard the forest and lagoon as two separate natural features that meet in the area around the town.

Trails and birdwatching

A trail through the Pineta Miserocchi connects a lookout tower for panoramic views and birdwatching with Prato Barenicolo. For long stretches, it runs alongside the calm waters of Pialassa Baiona. In the Bassa della Vigna area of Marina Romea, there is an observation tower from which you can view the eastern part of Baiona. Walks along Pialassa della Baiona offer views of traditional fishermen’s huts and flocks of birds. A boardwalk crosses the Pialassa lengthwise, providing access to the edge of the “Chiaro della Vena del Largo” basin. When choosing a route, it makes a difference whether you prefer a trail with a lookout point and panoramic views, want to watch fishermen’s huts and flocks of birds by the water, or are looking for access to the edge of the basin.

Beaches and waterside attractions

Marina Romea’s coastline is known for its long beaches and opportunities for surfing. A small marina is located at the mouth of the Lamone River. The coast and river mouth are two different waterside features, alongside the Pialassa, which is a focal point for walks and nature watching. The beach and surfing are part of the coastal landscape; the trails along Baiona draw attention to the scenery and birdlife, while the harbour connects to the Lamone. When planning your trip, you can distinguish between these features rather than treating all the waterside attractions as the same.
