Tassara offers three themes to help you plan your trip: protected architectural heritage, religious significance, and cycling routes through the Val Tidone. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to this area, first consider which focus best suits your plans: Chiesa S. Anna and its protected surroundings, the Santuario di Santa Maria del Monte, or a bike ride that takes you to the village. The specific places and route options give each of these themes a distinct point of reference.

Landscape and local history

Tassara lies on the border between the hills of the Oltrepo Pavese and the Piacenza hills. From Castello di Tassara, there are views of the hills of the Val Tidone fields, which descend in changing colors towards the Po Plain; the Alps can be seen in the distance on the northern horizon. The view connects the fields with the Po Plain and the distant Alpine horizon, while the village’s location between the two hill regions describes its regional setting. The local history also includes a former customs function: Tassara was once a customs post where taxes and duties were collected.

Churches, heritage, and religious history

Chiesa S. Anna is located on Strada Provinciale 45. An explicit protection measure dated September 25, 2001, protects Chiesa S. Anna and the adjoining rural buildings near the rectory of Chiesa Parrocchiale di Sant’Anna in Tassara as cultural heritage. The protected complex therefore includes not only the church but also the named rural buildings.

Castello di Tassara has an old, vaulted brick oven. It was once used by the whole village and is still used today to bake pizza and other dishes. Its former communal use and ongoing baking connect this architectural feature with a piece of everyday history.

Santuario di Santa Maria del Monte is located in Località Tassara in Alta Val Tidone. It was the destination of regular pilgrimages by worshippers from nearby and more distant places. The sanctuary can be reached by car or on foot. For trip planning, it offers a different point of reference from the protected Chiesa S. Anna: here, the focus is on its historic importance as a pilgrimage destination and the two stated ways of reaching it.

Cycling routes through the Val Tidone

A cycling route through the Val Tidone descends to the village of Tassara. Two options start there and head in different directions. One runs from Tassara to Trevozzo and adds 6 km and 200 m of elevation gain. The other runs from Tassara via Trevozzo to Borgonovo; it is listed as adding 4 km and also 200 m of elevation gain. You can compare the options by their additional distance: the route to Trevozzo is 2 km longer, while the stated additional elevation gain is the same for both. As road conditions can change, check the route before setting out.
