Longiano brings together a range of cultural and seasonal themes: art collections and sacred objects sit alongside regional everyday history, historic iron casting and theatre; there are also blossoming fruit trees, a winter nativity tradition and routes. Art and Sacred Collections

Today, the Malatesta Castle is the permanent home of the Fondazione “Tito Balestra” Onlus. Its collection comprises approximately 2,300 paintings, graphic works and sculptures. The approximate figure gives an idea of its size; the three types of work also show the collection’s breadth. The Museum of Sacred Art is housed in the Oratorio di S. Giuseppe Nuovo. It preserves works of art and sacred objects, including furnishings, liturgical vestments, relics and votive offerings. Unlike the Fondazione’s collection, its focus is on sacred objects and their religious context.

Everyday History and Iron Casting

The Museo del Territorio contains approximately 6,000 different artefacts from Longiano and the wider Romagna region. Its displays, organised around traditional occupations and women’s work, explore themes such as domestic life, weaving and childcare. The artefacts’ origins and thematic arrangement complement one another: they relate to Longiano and the wider Romagna region, while the displays focus on specific areas of work and everyday life.

The Rifugio Bellico adds a built testament to wartime history to these collection themes. This shelter runs through the tuff beneath the entire medieval village of Longiano. Its route therefore extends beyond a single location to encompass the whole village. The Museo Italiano della Ghisa offers another technical perspective: its exhibition includes around sixty street lamps made by major 19th-century foundries and explains the casting process. Seasonal Impressions, Culture and Routes

In the first weeks of March, the many orchards around the town centre display carpets of white and pink blossom. This seasonal landscape offers a different experience from the winter tradition at the monastery of the Santuario del Santissimo Crocifisso. Every year, usually from the first days of December until the end of January, it hosts the Grande Presepe Meccanico—Longiano’s oldest nativity scene and the one with the longest tradition. The Teatro Petrella offers a varied programme of drama, singer-songwriter music, cabaret, workshops, stages and artistic productions. The routes also offer different points of reference for planning: the Percorso Cicloturistico Lungo is about 55 km long, while an extended circular route passes through the entire municipal area of Longiano. The cycling route is defined by its approximate length, while the circular route is defined by its course through the municipal area.
