Discover Fano Adriano
Accommodation in Fano Adriano
Fano Adriano is shaped by the Selva forest. Its diverse tree cover creates a distinctive landscape in autumn. When choosing a hotel, you might consider whether you want to focus your trip mainly on forest scenery, rock formations, trails or cultural history.
Forest and Rock Formations
The Merletti and the Vene Rosse are located near Fano Adriano. Trails through the vegetation lead to the Merletti rock formations. Notable features there include the natural Cammello Arch and the Grotta delle Fate cave. The Vene Rosse are rocky ridges with a distinctive colour. These offer different sights: the arch and cave at the Merletti, and the distinctive colour of the ridges at the Vene Rosse.
The Grignetti are three basins carved into the rock that were used for wine production in ancient times. From the Grignetti, you can climb the Pasto Nudo climbing wall, which is located on a rocky peak of the Vene Rosse. The stated difficulty level means it is not recommended for beginners. This is important to bear in mind if you are considering climbing as part of your trip.
Trails and Excursions
A trail from Fano Adriano passes through a man-made conifer forest to the Eremo dell'Annunziata on Colle San Marcello. Prato Selva lies at an altitude of 1,400 metres within the municipality of Fano Adriano. It is a small winter sports resort among the forests of Monte Corvo, on the Teramo-facing slope of the Gran Sasso. Hiking, snowshoeing and mountain biking are possible there.
Prato Selva is also a stage on the Ippovia del Gran Sasso. This horse-riding route is more than 500 kilometres long and crosses large parts of the national park. The route “Da Prato Selva al Colle delle Monache,” described in a park excursion guide dated 7 July 2024, starts in Prato Selva and passes the Rocchetta stream, the Prati di Incodara and Colle delle Monache before reaching the foot of the Crivellaro ravine.
Culture and Everyday History
The Museo Etnografico delle Tradizioni Popolari in Cerqueto is a permanent institution that makes objects of everyday use and handicrafts from Cerqueto and other nearby places accessible to the public. The collection includes more than 1,000 objects relating to agriculture, livestock farming, woodworking and wool processing, crafts, and household furnishings. The museum thus documents life and activities in the past through different aspects of daily life and work.
The churches and chapels also offer insights into different historical periods. In its present form, the Chiesetta dell'Annunziata on Colle San Marcello dates to the 16th century. The Chiesetta di San Rocco in the hamlet of Villa Moreni has features dating to the 17th century. These statements refer to different aspects: the present form of the Annunziata and the features of the San Rocco chapel.
Keep Accessibility in Mind
The Chiesetta dell'Alpino and the condition of the path leading to it are not suitable for people with disabilities. The chapel stands at the summit of Colle Abetone, at an altitude of 1,775 metres, in a dense beech forest in the Monte Corvo area. At the Chiesetta di San Rocco, two steps at the entrance make access difficult for people with disabilities. The restrictions therefore differ: for San Rocco, the steps at the entrance are noted; for the Chiesetta dell'Alpino, both access and the condition of the path are noted.
