Rovere can be explored from two perspectives: its position on a hill overlooking the high plateau, and its cultural sites, including a castle, church and archaeological collection. The Sirente ridge provides a landscape setting for the town; the architectural and collection details reveal different aspects of its history. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip to Rovere, you can use these themes to guide your choice of destination: landscape, historic architecture, or nature and environmental education.

Location on the High Plateau

Rovere lies on a hill overlooking the high plateau. In the central-eastern part of the park, the Sirente extends as a ridge around 20 kilometres long, running from northwest to southeast. It stretches from Rovere at 1,413 metres to Forca Caruso at 1,107 metres. Rovere and Forca Caruso are therefore the two geographic reference points for the ridge described here. Taken together, the length, orientation and elevation figures provide a more precise picture than the view from the town alone: they place Rovere within a longer landform, while the view from the town highlights the high plateau. These details complement each other when planning your trip—one describes the view, the other the course of the ridge.

Castle, Church and Archaeological Collection

Castello di Rovere preserves the remains of a triangular fortress on a rocky spur. Round towers stand at its corners; the date of its founding is uncertain. The triangular layout and its towers give the castle a clearly describable form, while the date of its foundation remains unknown.

Chiesa della Madonna delle Grazie is a 12th-century church outside Rovere’s walls. The Museo Archeologico is housed in renovated medieval rooms below the 15th-century Church of San Pietro. Its collection includes excavation finds, including ceramic vessels, metal objects, glass material and Renaissance maiolica. The town’s cultural attractions can thus be distinguished by theme: the fortress form of the Castello, the dating and location of the church, and the finds in the museum.

Nature and Environmental Education

The Centro Visite del Camoscio in Rovere is an information centre about chamois and the park’s animal and plant life; it also has a wildlife area. The environmental education centre at the Centro supports environmental education and awareness-raising. The thematic programme also includes cultural and local events, such as exhibitions and conferences. The programme may vary. Its focus therefore ranges from information about chamois and the park’s nature to educational and event topics. If you would like to consider nature and culture together when choosing your destination, this area offers a different perspective from the castle, church and museum.

Cycling on the Altopiano delle Rocche

A local tourism article dated 21 May 2022 describes a cycling route on the Altopiano delle Rocche that runs from Ovindoli through Rovere and on to Rocca di Mezzo. Rovere is therefore part of the route described between the two towns. As the description dates from 2022, check the current cycling infrastructure before setting out.
