Ovindoli: Monte Magnola and Historic Traces
Accommodation in Ovindoli
If you are considering Ovindoli for a hotel stay, you can plan your trip around three distinct themes: the sports facilities at Monte Magnola, a specific route, and historical evidence from different eras. The Monte Magnola facilities are located in Ovindoli, at the start of the Altopiano delle Rocche and within the Sirente-Velino Regional Park.
Ski slopes, cross-country ski trail and snow park
The Monte Magnola ski area includes ski slopes between 1,400 and 2,200 metres in altitude, with a total length of 22 kilometres. For cross-country skiing, there is an approximately five-kilometre trail at an altitude of 1,900 metres. These figures refer to different measurements: the 22 kilometres describe the total length of the slopes, while the approximate five-kilometre figure refers to the cross-country ski trail. The altitude figures should also be read differently: a range is given for the slopes, while a single altitude is given for the trail. This lets you compare the options by sport and altitude, rather than treating the slope kilometres and the trail as the same route.
The freestyle snow park features a halfpipe, slopestyle and jibbing; a conveyor belt is available to take visitors uphill. Check the current status of the ski area before planning a specific visit.
Tubing and Route 10
Tubing is also available in Ovindoli: the Ovindoli Fun Park has three lanes with conveyor belts. This activity is seasonal. If tubing is important to your trip, check whether it will be available on your dates before travelling.
Route 10 starts at Piano del Ceraso in Ovindoli and leads to Monte Magnola. The six-kilometre route is listed as taking four hours, with an elevation gain of 808 metres. Unlike the total length of 22 kilometres for the ski slopes, these figures describe a single route: the distance and duration refer to the path from the stated start to the destination, while the slope figure combines several slopes. Check the status of Route 10 before setting out.
Medieval and Roman history
Porta Mutiati is the most clearly preserved trace of Ovindoli’s medieval village layout. The Villa imperiale a San Potito is a Roman villa dating to around the 1st century AD and featuring mosaic floors. The medieval village layout and a Roman villa are therefore distinct historical points of interest.
