Casalbordino can be explored through several distinct travel interests: pilgrimage history, buildings in the historic center, beaches and cycling routes. If you are looking for a hotel in Casalbordino, you can plan your stay around whether religious history, architecture or the coast is your main focus. The following features highlight the differences.

Pilgrimage history in Miracoli

The Sanctuary of Madonna dei Miracoli is a pilgrimage destination. Its origins are associated with the apparition of the Virgin Mary to Alessandro Muzio from Pollutri on June 11, 1576. The basilica and sanctuary are located in Miracoli, a hamlet of Casalbordino. The sanctuary was consecrated on August 11, 1962. The two dates refer to different historical events: 1576 connects the sanctuary’s origins with the apparition, while 1962 marks its later consecration. The Benedictine Monastery Library is part of the monastery at the sanctuary.

Architectural history in the historic center

A tower that was part of the medieval town walls still stands in the historic center of Casalbordino. The 18th-century Church of San Salvatore is also located there. The Church of Santissimo Salvatore has a late Baroque interior with stucco and gilding, as well as a longitudinal floor plan with three naves. This distinguishes the layout from the decor: the floor plan comprises three longitudinal naves, while stucco and gilding define the interior.

Palazzo Magnarapa dates from the mid-19th century and includes three existing building sections from the 16th and 17th centuries. These are two different dates: the mid-19th century refers to the palazzo, while the sections mentioned are considerably older. If you are comparing historic architecture, you should therefore not apply a single construction date to the entire palazzo.

Beaches with distinct characters

Two beaches along the coast differ markedly in character. Casalbordino Beach is wide and long, and consists mostly of sand. It can be reached via the S.S. 16, the turnoff to Lido di Casalbordino and then Via Bachelet heading south. Santo Stefano Beach is characterized by white pebbles and sand dunes along the Lungomare; access is via State Road 16, the Lungomare of Casalbordino and Via Alessandrini. This gives you a clear distinction when choosing between the beaches: mostly sand at one, white pebbles and dunes at the other.

Routes by the sea

From Lido di Casalbordino, an unpaved path follows the former railway line to the rocky headland of Punta Aderci and the nature reserve of the same name. Keep the unpaved surface in mind when planning your trip. As trail conditions can change, check the latest information before setting out.

A four-kilometer cycling and walking path was inaugurated along the Lungomare of Casalbordino. The Rete Ciclabile dei Trabocchi runs from Francavilla al Mare to Casalbordino Lido. A report dated August 11, 2026 also describes a new section in Casalbordino that adds continuity to the Via Verde della Costa dei Trabocchi and, more generally, the Ciclovia Adriatica. As continuity may change as work progresses, check the current route before your cycling trip.
