Holitscher Castle and Park

Holitscher Castle is a former Baroque building that was remodeled and extended several times over the centuries. It belonged to Eszterházy Imre from 1747 to 1749. Its construction history therefore spans several phases; its original classification as a Baroque building should be distinguished from the later remodeling and extensions.

At Holitscher Castle and Visitor Center, visitors can learn about Csetény’s heritage and the history of the castle and chapel. They can also see a wide range of changing exhibitions. The exhibitions may vary. If you want to see a particular exhibit, check what is currently on offer before your visit.

The castle includes an English-style park covering more than 16 Hungarian cadastral hold. Its design and stated area are distinct aspects of the castle grounds, in addition to the building’s construction history.

Chapel and Reformed Church

The chapel in the park at Holitscher Castle was reconsecrated on September 30, 2007, and is open to visitors. The grave of the person after whom the castle is named is located next to it. The chapel is also part of the history presented at the visitor center.

Csetény’s present-day Reformed Church stands on the site of the community’s first, medieval church. It was built between 1792 and 1793, partly using the ruins of the medieval stone church. The distinction in time is important: the present-day building is not the medieval church itself, but was built later on the same site. The church’s history thus adds another period to the building history of the former Baroque castle.
