Bathing and wellness in Bükfürdő

The Bükfürdő bath complex covers 14 hectares, with 32 pools and more than 5,200 square metres of water surface. The visitor centre explains how the medicinal water is formed and emerges; it also presents the development of the site up to the opening of the baths and the bathing experiences available today. The sauna world includes, among other facilities, a Devil’s Sauna, a tepidarium and a room with ice flakes. As facilities may change, check the current status of the sauna world before your visit.

Churches and historic buildings

The parish church of St. Clement in Bük was created in 1408 by remodelling a 13th-century Romanesque church. The building features Romanesque and Gothic details; its tower was built in the Baroque style in 1658. Inside are fragmentary wall paintings: some are medieval, while another section is a Baroque work from the 16th century.

The Protestant church was consecrated during Advent in 1785 as a late Baroque church without a tower. Its Neoclassical tower was built in 1826. The two churches thus offer different points of reference for exploring architectural styles and building phases in Bük.

The Szapáry Castle complex developed from a fortified manor house dating to the 16th century and was remodelled in the early Baroque style in 1696 by István Nagy of Felsőbüki. The castle is privately owned and is not open to visitors; certain parts can be seen from the outside. Check access arrangements again before visiting.

The Koczán House is the last thatched, hipped-roof farmhouse with earthen walls in the region. It currently houses a craft workshop, Easter egg-painting activities and various programmes for children and families. Its current use complements the architectural history with craft and cultural themes.

Routes and activities

The certified Sunshine Route is a 7.5-kilometre Nordic walking route that ends at Sunshine Children’s Park. Check the local signs before setting out. The Thermal Route is a shorter route around the Bükfürdő area. The Kneipp® and Nordic Walking Park in Bükfürdő has a 510-metre dry barefoot path, an outdoor yoga park and a hedge maze.

If golf is part of your trip, it is therefore advisable to check the latest information in advance.

Six interactive signs along the Répcementi nature trail provide information in a playful way. Characteristic trees, flowers and shrubs from different landscape regions have been planted in a green space covering several hundred square metres. Bük is also on section M01/08b of the Mary’s Way, which leads to the Ecumenical Chapel in Bükfürdő.

Market and getting there
