If you are considering Töreki as a travel destination, nature trails, wetlands, and birdwatching are the main attractions. Two route options, the facilities at the rest areas, and several ways of getting there are particularly relevant when planning. You can therefore begin by choosing a location based on the type of walk and your preferred way of travelling.

Natural surroundings beside the Töreki district

The protected valley beside the Töreki district contains lakes, wetlands, diverse forests, and meadows. The nature trail interprets the area's wildlife; the birdwatching tower offers views of its birdlife. The landscape and wildlife observation thus provide a tangible connection with nature during your stay: the trail explores the area's wildlife, while the tower focuses on its birdlife.

Two routes of different lengths

The longer option is an 8.5-kilometre hike along the entire nature trail. It includes the Tóközi rest area and the birdwatching tower. Other features include a bee-eater colony in a loess cliff, views across the Cinege stream valley, the Cinege spring, and a 90-year-old oak forest. The route thus brings together birdlife, valley views, a spring, and woodland as different aspects of nature.

There is also a 2.5-kilometre circular route through the forest, starting at the Cinege Rest Area. This rest area can be reached by car or bicycle along the lakeshore. The difference in length and route type is clear: the circular route is six kilometres shorter than the hike along the entire nature trail. When choosing, you can weigh up the distance and circular-route format, and consider whether you would like to plan for the full nature trail and its mentioned natural features.

Rest areas and getting there

Several rest areas along the nature trail are equipped with benches, shelters, fire pits, and waste disposal facilities. These facilities may be affected by maintenance or seasonal changes. Trail conditions can also vary, so it is a good idea to check the latest route information before setting out. This lets you factor the planned distance and possible breaks into your day's plans.

The Töreki nature area can be reached by car from Main Road 7. Other options include the train from Balatonszéplak-alsó station, bus services, and Siófok local bus route 7. By bicycle, the route from the Balaton Bicycle Ring runs via Klára Street and Búzavirág Street. As transport services and routes may change, check the latest timetables and route information before setting off. This is particularly helpful if you are planning to travel by public transport or via a cycling route.

It received the International Dark Sky Park title in 2009 due to low light pollution; the Zselici Csillagpark was established in the heart of the protected area. Somogy County is home to, among others, Kis-Balaton, the Zselici Tájvédelmi Körzet, Barcsi Ősborókás, and Babócsai Basakert. Baláta lies between Kaszó and Szenta and is considered one of Somogy's particularly valued natural assets. On its section in Somogy County, the region-wide Drava active tourism network includes stopping points for water tourism.
